Sooooo, I have been having the best time of my life here lately. Met new people and friends -- finally getting my life back to normal in Dallas like it was when I lived in Houston!

However, mentally I am ready to go, I have so many projects going o .People to do things to see  err things to do people to see :) my body is telling me otherwise! I guess it just can't keep up with my lifestyle of having FUN! :dunno:

2 years ago I had to have surgery for the second time on my tailbone. The second surgeon is fabulous and did a way better job than the first, even reduce the scarring from the first surgery. So I made a promise to him that I would not need to use him for wound care therapy/surgery again! Which brings me to where I am now...

I have a quarter size "bruised/slightly skin breakdown" mark on my tailbone where I had surgery. I'm so tired of rolling forward and then being pushed off the cliff :mfrlol: I know it could be a lot worse -- I've been there! It just seems like every time I overcome something and things are going good... my body says "WAIT -- YOU'RE PARALYZED". :)

I had to cancel all my plans this week because I'm on bedrest! I wish I could figure out why I keep getting these these "spots" in this area. My first surgery, the surgeon, chipped away at the bone, guess that was supposed to make it less "boney" and ease the pressure in that area???

I am a tiny girl (I don't like saying skinny -- sounds like I do it on purpose) I'm nothing but elbows and knees! I'm trying really hard to eat lots of protein and all that good stuff... I'm just... I don't know, venting. I know what I have to do and the best thing is BEDREST!

That's damn tough Texas Angel, although from your Fruedian slip you don't sound like an Angel to me; and who wants to be one.... :)

I'm lucky as I've never had a sore, but the bumpy tracks in Africa bruised my bum, which scared the #### out of me. I went to bed at 6pm and stayed there until 10 am.

I know that's not long, and I did get up in my chair, but I didn't do any travelling that day, just stayed at the Lodge with a cool beer  and played with the Crocs. :mfrlol:

I sit on a Roho cushion and sleep on a Roho mattress; I find them ideal for my boney bum.

Before all these fancy cushions we just sat on Dunlopillow cushions. Guys that had scars on their bums, often cut holes in the cushion where the scar was situated; it releaved the pressure on that delicate part.

I guess you wont be Bronco busting for a while TA, but I think a spot of bed rest, although boring, is the best solution. Cant you find a handsome guy to bed rest with? People to do and all that..... :dunno:

Good luck

Heeey scrib, I am an angel see my Halo :dunno: hmmmm how did that happen???? well I did have 1 -- even have the scars to prove it :mfrlol:

I use a roho cushion for my chair and my mattress as well -- I don't really get any spots or anything like that except for this one area! It's a real pain in the ass quite frankly!

You're lucky, no sores, I'm sure the bumpy roads in Africa did scare the :) out of you! Hmmm I would love to hear more about playing with the crocs!

Oh I'm having a party Saturday at my house so I will be up for that -- maybe I will have one of my friends that caught my eye this weekend come over and have a movie night or something... good idea!

Hey Tex,,, try finding the cells in your roho, that are under your tailbone,,, then sqeeze the air out of them and roll them down to the base,,, use tape to secure them,,,,, I used duct tape,,,.

Use your hand ( or the hand of any one you choose) to be sure there is no contact . If you do it right you can be in your chair as much as you like without any pressure on you bruised behind.

And Scrib,,,, how's she supposed to get bedREST with some handsome young brute in there with her?????

Hey Ed, thanks for the reply.

So by doing this it won't stop the circulation and make it worse??? Just wondering because I remember a rookie doctor wanted me to sit on a "doughnut" and my physical therapist told me NOOOO that cuts off the blood supply/circulation and makes it worse.

But then again I'm not completely sitting on something hard... well that didn't come out right if a reader has a perverted mind :)

LOL that's the best bedREST there is!

If you tie down only one or two cells directly where the offending area is, then you'll still have enough support not to interfere with circulation - in fact it will allow better circulation to the damaged area.

Ideally, stay on bedrest. A day or two sacrificed now can save months later. Hard and you know it. But that's the facts.

Oh okay, thanks norm!

I am on bed rest for at least the next couple of days -- I have a big party at my house Saturday though and I will do what you guys have suggested while I'm in my chair!

Wish I would have known about this after my surgery!

Hey, let's turn your lemons into lemonade. Instead of a "kissing booth" make yourself into a live hugging booth. Line up a bunch of cute guys to give you hugs at the party - each one can lift you a teensy bit and give you pressure relief. Charge 'em each a dollar and fund your next NASCAR trip!!! :)

You'll get your $50 TA when I get my kiss.. :mfrlol:

I don't know if this will work, but if you click on the attached link and go to page 5 of the photo album you should see a video clip of the Crocs coming to bite my toes.... :mfromg:

Where's my invite to your party?

Try and keep off that tail bone! :specool:

Are you sitting slightly reclined back in your chair? That puts more presure on your tail bone. Plus how hard do you have your Roho inflated?

Hard isn't good for Roho cushions....

You are so invited -- can you be here by Saturday?? :mfrlol:

Nope, it's not hard, we checked that. I do sit slightly reclined tho, sitting straight up will make me pass out not to mention very uncomfortable :specool:

I'll fly to Texas in my private jet; I've never been kissed by an Angel..... so its worth $50..... :yahoo:

Your injury is higher than mine so I understand why you sit reclined and about the passing out.

When I was first injured, and for quite a while after, I used to always pass out but I got over it. Now I'm older I take a 15mg tablet of Ephedrine 30 minutes before breakfast and lunch, it boosts my BP just enough to stop me passing out.

When I'm in bed I rarely lay on my back; I go from side to side. I always sleep on my left side and can usually stay there all night.

When I sit in my chair I try to have most pressure under my thighs, with sitting reclined you wont be able to do that, but its harder for you so I understand.

An easy way to take pressure off your tail bone is to get someone, "like a handsome young guy", to stand in front of you and lean you forward into his strong, masculine arms... :w00t: You need to do this quite often, depending how dishy he is....

When I did the 11 hour flight to Africa I sat on my Roho. Even so, I couldn't wriggle about like I do in my wheelchair so could feel more pressure on my tail bone. I just got Eva, my PA to lean me forward into her arms....mmmmmm :ban: Even if it didn't help my bum, it was nice being hugged by an attractive young lady...

What edlee suggests is a good idea, squeezing the air out of a cell or 2 is fine but make sure your tail bone doesn't press on the back of your chair, which is sometimes the cause.

Because I have full feeling I know if I'm putting too much pressure in one spot so I'm lucky, but its often uncomfortable if I get a crease under my bum..... :ranting:

I'd better get my bag packed as its a long flight to Texas so we'll set off soon. I'm packing some special lip balm so they're nice and soft for the kissing...... :bye:

Take care and keep that wicked sense of humour TA..... :lmao:

Private Jet -- Hell yeah you should have been here 3 days ago LOL being kissed by an Angel is one thing but it's a whole different thing to be kissed by a Texas Angel! Worth more than $50 but I'll give you a discount

yeah even though I have been reclassified as a C-5, I still have the side effects of the C1 C2, right after my accident I used to have to take ephedrine 30 minutes prior to getting in my chair. I no longer have to use any type of BP medication... my mom just kind of tosses me in the chair, adjusts my body and there we go. Sometimes I have dizzy spells but that's usually when I have UTIs or sinus infection... that's usually how I know I'm sick. The dizziness.

When I lay in bed I usually lay on my back and then when ready for sleeping medication I turn to the right and can pretty much stay on that side the entire night -- of course I have spasms -- I think it's my body way of relieving pressure (it's own weight shifting) but that's just my theory LOL

When I'm on planes, depending how long, I usually sit on my roho cushion as well -- it was weird because of the pressure and altitude changes made the air fluctuate in my cushion. By the way, I hate plane rides, I just don't have strong enough upper body movement and always have a crick in my neck!

As far as having a muscular guys stand in front of me pulling me forward -- sounds nice and I know that a couple of guys who have no problem doing that but I have a tilt in space chair, so they just tilt me back instead. Although I don't do this enough!

I saw the pictures of the crocs... craziness!!!

Sorry I'm not as animated today, didn't get much sleep last night, but my humor is still here :dunno: I'm so ready for the weekend! My sister is coming into town with my niece and nephew, party on Saturday, then Tuesday a meeting with the designer! Busy busy busy -- but restricting my chair time. We're going to try adjusting the cushion and see if that helps!

Angel,

The Devil here. If I were you--I'd be all knees and elbows--stop me! If I were you I'd look into acquiring an electric zero-gravity recliner. I have one called a Perfect Chair. Even with a nasty pressure sore you can touch a button and keep shifting your weight. If I had a sore like you describe I'd kick my zero-gravity recliner all the way back so my legs--from lower back to knees--are facing skyward and there is no pressure on the sacrum, or tailbone.

The zero-gravity chairs are great at preventing pressure sores too because you can swivel from 90 degrees to what I call the Space Shuttle lift off position where you back is at 180 degrees--or flat. Google, or use whatever search engine you want, "electric zero gravity recliners"--or chairs. It's a great option to being in bed because you can obtain the benefits of no pressure and being able to sit up in your recliner with minimal pressure--momentarily if you have a sore--and keep partying. I love my Zero-G chair and am writing you this post know from the "Space Shuttle" fully reclined Zero-G position. :censored:

It's the best of both worlds. Whenever I transfer out of my zero-G chair, someone else hops in it because it is so versatile and comfy while having therapeutic value. It even helps reduce blood pressure in the zero-G position. I had my Community Based Service program provider by mine from a Relax The Back store with a prescription from my PMR physician. Retail cost is about $1,200, unless you have the upper body strength to use a manual zero gravity recliner. I live near San Antonio so we are fellow Texans and if I could swing it you can too. Happy hunting.

thank you so much for the Advice and I will so look into it! Sounds like a lot of fun LOL. I only get out of bed when I have to or really really want to. It's going away but not where I want it to be! I'm very frustrated... nice to see another Texan in the forum!
