Hi all, I had a C6/C7 complete injury in March 2008. We postponed wedding which was all set for October, and are attempting it again in May 2009. I really want our honeymoon to be special, and therefore I need to know that the location and accommodation we choose is not going to cause us any unnecessary stress.

I want to honeymoon in Europe, we had always talked about going to Italy. We love being outdoors, we love the sea and we love to wine and dine. I had thought about the Amalfi Coast, we were in Tuscany in 2007 and totally fell in love with it.

I would be really grateful for any suggestions matter how small, to help me get some ideas. I am thinking of maybe splitting the honeymoon into two week-long breaks at different hotels. We will get a hire car to get around. As I am still getting used to my disability I require a commodes chair and wet room in order to shower, I'm not up to transferring onto the toilet or in and out of the bath yet.

Look forward to hearing your suggestions, nick.

Sorry you had to postpone your wedding but glad that you are thinking ahead past the wedding and onto the HONEYMOON

I love to travel but it can be an inconvenience sometimes because of my disability. The worst part for me is THE PLANE RIDE! The aisle chair that they transfer you onto is a pain in the ass! I'm very tall and my upper body isn't all that strong so I pretty much just close my eyes until I get transferred into the assigned seating on the plane (always ask for bulkhead seating or first class ;) ) bulk head seating has more legroom vs. All the other seats on the plane.

I have only traveled out of the country once and that was to Cozumel -- that was CRAZY! They do not have terminals -- they had to carry me down the stairs in that stupid aisle chair LOL. Needless to say any time I travel somewhere by plane, I take extra muscle relaxers and if it's a very long trip, a sleeping pill.

I always make sure that the hotels are accommodating to my needs before hand.

My husband is c5-c6 and we have traveled to The Bahamas and Mexico...we are going back to Cancun in May.

We really really really wanted to go to Paris, but I couldn't find enough info about the accessibility, etc. So we are just sticking with Cancun which is AWESOME for my hubby.

Hopefully some people on here will have some info on Europe for you. Have fun!!!!!

Hi Nick,
how long will be your stay in Italy? If you rent a car you can easily see different places. You can visit the South (e.g. Amalfi, Neaples, Caserta with its beautiful royal palace, the ancient city of Pompei) or the North (e.g. Lake Como, Venice). Also check some pictures of Lago d'Orta in Piedmont - it is a very very romantic and beautiful place, perfect for a 2-day stay, not very accessible, but with some indications you can enjoy it a lot, as we did many times. Also check the Langhe area in Piedmont if you love wine and food. We spent a weekend there 2 years ago, in La Morra, in beautiful hotel Corte Gondina. In the evening you can choose among different nice restaurants with great food and wine, in the afternoon you can spend your time wine tasting if you like it or visiting the surrounding area. The area is very quiet, pretty similar to Tuscany (hills, small villages, etc.). If you love the sea, you might want to extend your stay to Sardinia, with its beautiful beaches. May is perfect for Sardinia, it will not be crowded. And, of course you can include Rome in your tour if you have never been there. It all depends on your time, budget and interests!
First decide where you want to go - then you'll look for accessible accomodations.
