My fiance and I are looking for an apartment that's at least acceptable in the accessibility department. It doesn't look like we'll be able to find anything with a roll-in shower, so we've come to terms with that. We're thinking we may be able to rig up a walk-in shower by taking off the doors. Has anyone ever tried this?
But, the bathroom sink is still an issue because where we are looking, there are cabinets under the sink... we're giong to ask the apartment management to remove the cabinets so he can roll under there. We're also a little concerned about being able to roll his shower chair over the toilet, but we're thinking we'll be able to figure something out.
I'm just wondering if you guys have any tips for us of things you've done in apartment bathrooms that make them at least accessible enough to deal with for like a year... we're not sure we're going to settle down forever here, so we're not ready to buy something here (plus we wouldn't ever be able to afford it here!).
We're in the DC area.
I appreciate any feedback you guys can give us! Thanks.

try looking at these, they are City priced but have a roll-in shower in some apts i believe, i am having the same problem finding a place in DC as i will be living there this coming summer for an internship. The place i listed is to expensive for a college kid, but it may work for you. And i believe that the company the owns this property may have others that are accessible.
hope that helps, and i would love to hear anyone else on the subject i created a post before about it an no one replied

Thanks, Fred. But those are way to expensive for us, too! We are going to be living in Northern Virginia. Good luck with your internship!

can he transfer to a shower bench instead? then you could have a normal bath tub
also a pedestal sink would work better, but you loose counter space
