Whether walking with canes or wheeling in my chair, I tend to attract every weirdo and their genetically retarded brother. They ask stupid questions, make stupid comments or suggest ways that will heal my body...prayer, reiki, magic supplements.
A guy who recently approached me, although he wanted to lay hands on me and pray for me, also suggested that I look into myelin supplements. Myelin is the white matter coating our nerves enabling them to conduct impulses between the brain and other parts of the body. I looked it up and these supplements tend to be a wholistic healing supplement for people who develop MS as it is a degenerative disease which destroys myelin. I did some more reading and wondered, if perhaps they may boost peripheral nerve regeneration.
I am T12 incomplete SCI'd. I understand that the current school of thought is that the spinal cord nerves themselves are unable to regenerate but I have been told that the peripheral nerves do have the ability to regenerate. Hence, I'm wondering if this supplement may have some benefit. Has anyone on this board ever tried myelin supplements?

I hate when people come up to you and ask you questions about why your in a wheelchair. I was with my boyfriend the other day and a cute old lady told him God bless him for being with me. I wanted to yell at her so bad. I have never heard of myelin.
I don't ever remember my doctors talking to me in depth about having a incomplete sci. they told me i would never walk again and i was 15 at the time and pissed off i told them f*@k you i will to you just watch. and 2 months of being in the hospital my physical therapist made leg braces for me and i started walking in the bars and threw it in my drs face. by the time i was 17 and a junior in high school i could walk with leg braces and a walker. i can't walk fast but i did get to stand for pictures for my Junior Prom i was going to walk for part of the grand march but i chickened out on doing that. Sadly when i left home to go to college at the Art Institue in Minneapolis MN i stopped working on walking. i do it once in awhile but know that my boyfriend and i are going to get engaged im thinking about getting new braces so i can walk good enough that i can walk down the eisle. Hopefully otherwise my daddy said he would just carry me down the eisle. that would be cute too. sorry i kinda went off the subject. If you find anything out on myelin let me know
