If your patner has to go into Stanmore Spinal Unit, where do you stay? Is there any accomodation near there?
When my husband use to go to Stoke they had accomodation on site for reletives. Stanmore seams miles away from anywhere.

Theres no where on site to stay as stanmore is a crap hole....there might be some B&B's in the area but dont hold ya breath. sry i carnt be of more help but as you said its miles from anywhere. I spent 9 months there for my sins but lucky for us i live not to far from it and at the time my misses had a sister who lived near by.

the best thing I would say, is to get in touch with the Patient Liaison Unit at Stanmore.

I would also get in touch with the Community Liaison (0208 909 5594) and ask their advice re Accommodation and/or what support they usually provide (if anything) for families/spouses etc with re to this.

Just wanted to add that (from experience) most- if not all- hospital specialist units keep a list of local B&B, Hotels and boarding houses which are often used by spouses and families. In some areas these facilities are at a reduced rate for those supporting/staying to be close to a hospital client. hth, K

Hi My daughter was also at Stanmore, but I drove all the time, wore a groove in the in the A1. I would say look on a map. you know it is not in the middle of nowhere. at the end of Edgeware Rd near to Hendon etc. I cannot think of the places around, but there is life around that way.
Lot of new building going on there, my mother was also in there about 60 years ago, strange that. then my daughter was about 8 years ago. do not think the buildings had changed much, but equipment inside was ok. It was ski slope down to the operating theatre that amazed me, where they towed you back up by truck, like they have at airports.

Hi Irenec,

My partner left Stanmore in August after being there for 8 months and although I traveled everyday as I was not far they are now offering accomodation on site. One of the other patients mother was staying in the accomodation. Best thing to do is contact them and ask. If they can't accomodate you they have a list of B&Bs who are very closeby.
