Ingrown Toenails

I've had problems with ingrown toenails since I was hurt. Over a year ago I had one of my toenails removed completely due to this problem in an attempt to solve it. Now, it's finally grown back and I think it's ingrown again. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if they found a solution. Thanks for any help anyone can give me.
Insert witty, intelligent and deep quote here.

it's not just me then. i had ingrown nails on both of my big toes on both sides of the nail, 4 at once. and they got serisouly infected too. i went to the podiatrist and he cut the ingown part of the nails out. they started to grow back and one toe did fine and the other toe ingrew again. so, he completly cut the sides off then he put a chemical on it that kills the nail so it doesn't grow back.

Hi,
I had a problem with an ingrown toenail on my right foot only. You may want to look at your shoe size, perhaps the ones you have are too small or narrow. Also, I found open toe footwear also help prevent the bacteria which often grows with ingrown toenails. I keep my feet exposed as often as possible which I have found helps.

I get them. too,,,,,, but Medicare will pay to have a Podiatrist trim them,,,, I go about every five or six weeks,,, that way she can stay ahead of them.

I had a troublesome one 'chemically burned' at the roots about 4 years ago. They snip the sides so you still have a narrower nail in the middle, but they stick a chemical into the nail root (on each side) so it stops growing, and indeed, it has not grown back.
It's a bit of a pain for a few weeks where you have to wash eveything out with saline and change the dressings, but it was ok after about a month.
I still have a check up every 6 weeks at the chiropodist, but the burned one is well behaved, it's the other damn bigged toe which I decided not to have burned at the time that plays up!
