Ok so i am seriously p.o.
I have applied for university and have been given a place at my first choice. The university has great access and facilities for people in wheelchairs.
The accomodation is fantastic,
apart from the fact that i have to pay an extra £30 a week for my room because it is an adapted room.
When i worked it out i will be paying over £1000 pounds extra a year for my accomodation.
The rooms are loverly, but they are the equivelant of a standard room, with handrails added.
I cant afford an extra £1000 a year for accomodation.
I will be paying more than my friend pays for an ensuite catered room at a university elsewhere.
Its wrong.
ok rant over.

OK to start with CALM DOWN

You need to apply for Disabled Student Allowance, they do a report which is sent of to you LEA/local education authority with your additional needs on it. They get you to collect an invoice from the accomodation service at you choice of uni they then return to you the price difference between a standard room and an accessible becuase you didnt have a choice of rooms. You will probably get a laptop, books and paper costs out of them too ;)

Hope that helped :P

That is pretty good news, to many. How much of your tuition is funded by the gov. over there??? I mean normally and for everyone,,, not just chair people?

I've always been of the opinion that in any society, two things should be universally available,,,,, health care and education,,, and by education I mean to whatever level a person is capable of reaching.

,,, But that's for another thread,,,
