Hi
Has anyone tried taking either of these to try and relax the bladder and pee more?
I've been voiding fine for 8 yrs but now don't pee much during the day. I normally use sheaths/convenes but am now doing an intermittant catheter every night and getting large volumes. Consequently with not emptying the bladder properly I'm getting lots of UTI's.
Any suggestions welcomed.

hi, my partner is on dantroline but is also having problems with voiding.

He also uses condom drainage, the urologist also gave him flomax to try and help but they didn't do the trick,

they have given him catheters now as his bladder is holding to much fluid and his kidneys will suffer if he can't get the fluid out.

we are having problems getting the cath to go in as the sphincter is very tight, Well anyway he was given the catheters to compleatly empty his bladder ,

so if you do intermitent cathing the bladder will be empty, or so i belive

I've used an external condom-cath set-up since about 1966. I went through a period of repeated UTIs because my bladder retained too high a residual. My urologist performed a sphincterectomy to correct the problem, a too tight sphincter that wouldn't allow complete drainage.

They go up the urethra and nick the urinary sphincter muscle to weaken it and allow more complete drainage. He took a conservative approach the first time so I had to have it done again about two years later. Some SCIs refer to it as the 'snip and drip' procedure. If it is done too aggressively, there may be a somewhat constant dribbling of urine. Fortunately, I never had that problem. My bladder reaches a certain level and drains pretty well. I've not had another UTI, to my knowledge, in over 15 years. I take no medications whatever. No anti-spasm, no antibiotics.

There is one risk, though. The urologist must be very careful because the nerves that control erection and ejaculation are very close and there is a risk for erectile impairment or ejaculatory interference. I can get wood fairly well; sometimes without ED meds, but better with them. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to ejaculate since the last procedure. We did have a child before either procedures, though, when ejaculation wasn't a problem.

I use Dantrolene but just for spasms.

I used a sheath and legbag without problems for over 40 years but eventually my bladder stopped emptying. My urologist gave me an SPC, nothing else was suggested. The SPC is a failure as I pee from SPC and urethra, this means 2 leg bags.

If I'd had the choice I'd have had the neck of my bladder stretched..

I just posted a new subjecft on this.

Short of it is I too have recently (2 years of my 24 years injured) been UNABLE to void between caths. My urologists are useless..."have surgery".
I don't even know why? Is it my sphincter?
I came here to see if a drug that would help. I'll look at these two.

I read that injecting Botox into the bladder is a "temporary" sphincterotomy. Anyone know?

I was on Dantrolene for a while but came off it as soon as I could. Not a nice drug. I had good muscle tone in both legs but since taking this my legs have basically just wasted away. I would avoid at all cost if you can.
