I wasn't aware that they would prescribe that high of a dosage... My doctors seem to feel that the 1800mg I'm taking is a lot.

You could try Lyrica,,, some have had good results with it,, although I didn't.

I guess you will have to go to opiates or live with it. My next move is to find a pain management specialist,,, I suggest the same for you.

I wish you luck.

My husband is on Lyrica and has found benefit with it, he still has quite a bit of pain but it's better than when he tried Gabapentin it did nothing for him. I suggest checking out the pain clinic before going, make sure they are a help. Where we are there is a pain cliic 120km away but they are very disorganised and amiturish, but the next clinic is 1800km away and we would have to fund that flight ourselves, but we are getting to the point of seriously considering it.

The only thing gabapentin has helped me with is controlling the nerve irritation. I used to get like a urning sensation almost felt like i had a rash or something right at my sensibility level. but for pain they got me on Hydrocodone 5/325 2 tabs 3 times a day.

The Lyrica he uses for the nerve pain and it helps, but the gabapentan did nothing. He is using durogesic patches and oxycontin for his other pain and endone for break thru pain. Due to his high pain levels the ortho referred him to a pain specialist in Brisbane and he wants to do a trial for a spinal stimulator, which we aren't rushing into but are seriously considering

I've just been to my SCI dr, getting my gaba increased,,,, he also told me that ibuprofen taken with the gaba sometimes increases the effectiveness,,,,, that's Motrim,, but at 600mg .

It's been a week and no help, yet,,,,, but sometimes it takes a while,, so,,,,,

If you take too much you could have kidney and liver problems,,, particularly with the ibupofen,,,

As for the lyrica,, I tried it about two years ago for two months,,,, no improvement then,,,, might have to give it another shot.

I was taking 300mg Lyrica four times a day, but have dropped back to 300mg three times a day...

It used to make me a bit drowsey, but I guess my body adjusted to it, coz I don't get drowsey at all now, and I'm living pain-free :-)

Lovin' it.
