Ok,  I am looking for some input on this odd situation.  I have posted before on this site about by neuropathic pain.  I am a T9/T10 para injured in October of 08.  Since injury I have had what I believe to be neuropathic pain in my groin, rectum, and legs.  Basically everywhere below my injury.  It is not shooting pain.  The worst is in my groin/rectum.  For lack of a better description it feels like I have a 2 liter bottle shoved up my a**.  I also have a freezing feeling in my legs.  I have been increasing on meds for quite a while.  I am now taking 3900 mg of Gabapentin and 225 mg of Lyrica a day.  It has only muted this pain.       Now,  here is what I don't understand.  I had a UTI in December of this year and with it my neuro pain and spasms got much worse.  They prescribed me Cipro.  After the very first day of taking the cipro my neuro pain and spasms were COMPLETELY gone.  I could not believe how good I felt.  My neuro pain slowly crept back throughout the 7 days of taking the cipro.  2 days after finishing the cipro my neuro pain came back full force.  I had another urinalaysis done and had no UTI.  I went through a cycle of neuro pain getting worse, then upping my meds.  Now, 2 weeks ago I began to show symptoms of another UTI.  I had a urinalaysis done and had no UTI.  Suddenly my spasms not only came back but came back bad, and my neuro pain got worse.  Both continued to get worse day by day until this Tuesday.  My neuro pain was TERRIBLE and my spasms were so bad I could barely transfer or wheel myself around.  My urine was dark orange and there was chunks of white stuff floating in it.  It was so cloudy I couldnt see through it.  Also I was showing signs of bladder spasms since I would cath for 100 then 1200 6 hours later.  I was in so much pain I couldnt get out of bed.  I had my wife take another urine sample in and I called my doctor and got them to call in a cipro prescription until my results came back.  I took my first cipro that night and the very next day my neuro pain and spasms were GONE.  I felt better than I have since my injury.  Now I'm on day 2 of my cipro and my neuro/groin pain is creeping back.  I went to my doctor and he said the urine results came back and I was negative for a UTI.  However,  my test showed signs of "other" microorganisms and that was all that was stated.     Here is where I need advice.  I told my doctor how both times when I took the cipro my neuro pain and spasms disappeared only to creep back slowly.  He and I do not understand why the cipro gets rid of the two.  I am believing that maybe my neuro pain is being caused by some infection somewhere below my injury.  When I take the cipro initially, it shocks the infection and hence gets rid of my neuro pain.  However, maybe this infection adapts to the cipro and slowly comes back.  This would explain why my neuro pain gradually gets worse as the day goes on.     My questions :What type of infection could this be if not a UTI?Why do my neuro pain and spams completely subside the first day on cipro? What other antibiotics could I try?How can my neuro pain be linked to this?     I am going to see my other doctor tomorrow to see what he has to say.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Sorry my post was so long but I wanted to give as much info as possible.  Thanks for listening.

Very interesting. I don't get the same relief with antibiotics, tho I wish I did, but am certainly interested in what's going on.

Please keep us informed, as it may help others here.

Hi Tason, did you have an MSU? It can depend how close to coming off your antibiotics. I find that I have to be off them four days at least or the bugs aren't picked up. There are bugs in our urine anyway, it is when there is an overgrowth of one particular one or one which doesn't belong there when things start to go bad. I have also had false readings from urine tests when I know I have an infection, comes back negative then a few days later I go back and sure enough there is an infection there. Yours could also be a prostate or kidney infection. The orange urine could be something you are eating, extremely concentrated urine or infection, particularly the white floaters.
