13, I'm 24 now. Doesn't seem like that long ago, though.
3 doctors diagnosed me with hysterical paralysis (weee!), 1 diagnosed an incomplete T7, another T2 and the last (and most accurate) T5. Trampolines are BAD. Sleep is unpredictable. And never kiss strangers. Life has moved on.

Hi Everyone!
I was 13 on Fathers day 2002, 2 months before I turned 14 which I spent in Hospital. I was hit in the neck with an electric fence post for separating fields for horses, It had a 6 inch spike on the end which bruised my spinal cord. I can now walk with a cane and have been driving my new car with the help of an infrared steering ball unit which is a very handy piece of kit.
I'm now 21 and have started back to physio and OT and hoping to improve further with their exellent help at Musgrave Park Hospital Belfast.
Nice to meet you all on here, I didn't know this existed.
Kevin

I am 26-years-old now and I was paralyzed when I was 14 –years-old. My family and I were driving to a family reunion when our car was stuck in gnarly monsoon rainstorm in Nevada and hydroplaned and rolled over a few times. My father was killed, my mother badly injured, little sister with minor and myself paralyzed. I spent my 15th birthday in Shock Trauma.
I was planning on getting a scholarship to play basketball, in which I was an all-star in. I was very popular and a big flirt with all the boys… so yeah… there was a little adjustment. The high school courtyard became a mine field of backpacks… for one thing. The new life was one hell of a change but not impossible to adapt to. …Learned many ways to “use what I got” for many many many advantages. I graduated high school on time and went to USC on a full-ride scholarship via “Swim with Mike.” It was an AMAZING experience!
The subtleties of life are what make it so beautiful and pleasurable to experience. Look at the beauty around you… not the pretty things in your neighbor’s yard. In other words, “it’s not what you look at that matter. It’s what you see” (Henry David Thoreau). I have learned ever so much in my 10 years of being in a chair and have experienced so much. I will keep experiencing life for it is an adventure truly unique to the individual soul.
I am always happy to talk to anyone about life, all aspects, so I am here if you need me.

I was 17 when I broke. Lately I've been thinking about the day when I will have been using my wheelchair for more than half my life. That day will come in a couple years and I sometimes wonder what I will be thinking or doing at that time. Thanks for this thread and topic.
