So... I just found out from Department of health and social services that I need to start paying a $601 co-pay once a month to my caregiving company. I'm really worried because that they're threatening to cut off my caregiving services unless I pay this once a month. I can't afford that and pay for my bills at the same time. I basically stuck trying to figure out what to do with very little money a month. Has anybody heard anything about this? Is there anything that you can do? I don't know what to do. Have you had to pay a co-pay to your caregiver company?

I can't move anything below my shoulders so I definitely depend on my caregivers. They are threatening to cut off services unless I pay that per month starting next week.

Any help or thoughts would be kindly appreciated.

I've never heard of anything like that before...All of our caregivers are subsidized through a state IHSS (In Home Support Services) grant... How many hours do they currently allocate to you each month?

Dex, upon reading your topic I was gonna say just what SCS above me said. I'm a vet so Uncle Sam, well actually you the tax paying public take care of me. Shoulda joined the Coast Guard back then when you the a chance.

Might take some research but there's gotta be something the state does in cases such as yours.
Weren't you the guy who gave someone a bunch of leads for gov. agencies who help the underprivileged disabled?

A lot of the people who make the rules we are forced to re-shape our lives around simply can't understand why we don't just get up out of our chairs, run get the platinum credit card and charge everything we need. Mean time, they stop at a bar on the way home, get ripped out of their minds on hundred dollar a shot Hennessy Congac, then just miss, or maybe even hit a few innocent victims before wheeling their way into the garage of their multi million dollar estate. All the while whistling some arcane ditty with the insouciance of a village idiot.

Start doing your bowel care on the governor's front lawn every morning. Bet that'll get some results.

I live in California and have IHSS. (In Home Support Services) I have not gotten anything saying I have to pay. Nearest thing I've heard to that was social security recipients having to pay a co-pay for their medi-care, and that IHSS workers in CA may not get paid if CA Government does not get their budget signed (it's still a big problem even getting the budget completed and signed)

I do have to have to say, that is REALLY FUNNY!

As for DSHS telling me that I need to pay a deposit. I'm curious to see if anybody has had any luck appealing a case before?

My Mom (she deals with the paperwork & red tape) said that IHSS is income based. Is this who provides/pays for your care? In California the state medicaid program is Medi-Cal, the name is different from state to state. You should contact your state medicaid office to see about switching to IHSS or a reduction if you are already having IHSS for your care.

Let me know me know if I can help more.

Sorry to be off topic but I am a complete newbie to this forum. I am a C4 quad living in Florida. I am a legal resident but not a Citizen. I have a pca that comes in everyday. I have been paying them directly for the last 3 years. I was hurt 15 years ago in Canada and had funding there. Like everyone else in todays economy it is harder and harder to personally pay for care. Does anyone know if I am eligible for any sort of funding?

Thanks for any input.

Bill

 This probably should have been started as a new thread. :wink05:

That being said.......
You would need to apply at your local social security office. I do not know how your citizenship status will effect your claim.

Good luck.
