  • Spinal Injury Level / Relationship:Cousin C5 complete

Hi all...

My cousin has had a freak incident and ended up with a c5 injury... not sure yet but i think complete.

We still have plenty of time as he is still in intensive care (been 7 weeks already)...

I am looking around for the best wheelchair that is possible... he is 18... crazy about driving like me so we want to get him the best one which looks sporty, even if it has to be customised... money isnt the factor, his happiness is.

Is there anyone who knows where is best to look? we are in Australia... but dont care where it has to be imported from if not currently available here.

thanks in advance

Ben

should have mentioned... c5 - quad - so a motorised wheelchair needed

Well actually just so you know there are quite a few people who have been able to use a manual wheelchair with a C-5 level injury. :muahaha: It takes a lot of physical therapy to regain and/or build up the muscles needed to do so but as I said many have. Wait and see what physical and occupational therapists say before making any purchases.

But manual and electric wheelchairs come in a rainbow of colors (& often you can do some more customizations at home to personalize it a bit more), they're also in many different makes and models almost like cars; but the wheelchair will have to be fitted to his measurements to maximize comfort & safety.

You should nose around some more here in the forums and see from posts what those with C-5 injuries are still able to accomplish.........including starting up web-sites and bringing us all together. :D

Don't give up & I hope your cousin will come here when he is up to doing so.
