my car died on me today, luckily i'd just come off a very busy ringroad, i called recovery and whilst waiting two very helpful youths helped push my car into a side road so that i was safer whilst i waited.

the recovery turned up and quickly diagnosed te problem, my throttle cable had been snapped (presumably when my handcontrols were fitted as apart from two services no one has touched the car), and instead of putting a new cable in they'd twisted it together and put electrical tape round it!! now im 'not a mechanic yet even i know that you dont use electrical tape to fix a throttle cable!!
as it was we were ok, but only yesterday i was on the motorway mainly in the 3rd lane due to loads of lorries on it, had it have happened then we probably wouldnt have stood a chance!!
i'm trying to get hold of the people that fitted the adaptions, but i guess they will just deny it anyway, but the worrying thing was the rescue services said they have seen several badly fitted adaptions, so just wanted to warn others on the site, has anyone else experienced any problems like this with their adaptions? i have the elap ring accelerator and brake lever fited.
i feel quite shaken up, not just with what happened but more by what could have happened, i was lucky as no one was behind me at the time, i feel like i want to take action against them but guess i have absolutly no proof to do anything about it.
it wasnt me, i didnt do it, no one saw me so they cant prove a thing!

That was a pretty shoddy job they did on your car. (They should have used duct tape  - only kidding). Anyway there is no point in getting distressed about what might have been. You are OK and that is what matters.

It is doubtful that you would get any admissions from the installer, but it might be worth contacting the manufacturer of the controls and let them know about the quality of work purchasers of their product can expect to receive from those bodgers. The manufacturer might even stop supplying them. On the other hand you could just put the whole affair down to experience.

Carpe Diem
