It might be useful, michelle, if you stated where in the world you are.
"It's the notion that there is no perfection ~ that this is a broken world and we live with broken hearts and broken lives but still that is no alibi for anything. On the contrary, you have to stand up and say hallelujah under those circumstances. " - Leonard Cohen

I don't know where you are located but most places have funding/programs available for people who are in financial need and need assistive devices, particularly those on welfare. Also you mentioned you have muscular dystrophy--the various muscular dystrophy associations out there (sorry, don't know the names of any as I'm not at all familiar with it) should have programs in place for the giving/lending of assistive devices. Try contacting them and ask your social worker (which I'm assuming you have, since you mentioned you are on welfare). He/she should be helping you with that.

Hi Michelle,

Have you found a chair? Have you contacted the MS Society in your area? Local Legion, VFW, Lions or similar civic organizations often are able to help with purchases for people with needs are yours. They just need to know who needs help and will ask them for it.

Where are you located? I may know where you can find one, but need to see what facilities may be closest to best help you.

Are you looking for a manual or power chair? What size of a chair do you need? Hip width, back height, legs; length from hip to knees and knees to bottom of your feet are good measurements to provide. If you want/need arms, anti-tip or push handles on the wheelchair are other things to consider.

Sorry if I overwhelmed you with information, but if you think about these things up front getting a better fitting chair will make things easier for you later.

Peace
