Hello out there,
Does anyone out there in the Tri-Valley, CA (Livermore, Dublin, Pleasanton) want to get the best in-home care possible?
I'm a 47y/o woman with an 18y/o paraplegic daughter. We want to move to the Tri-Valley to be near my parents (in Livermore) and to allow my daughter to attend Las Positas College. BUT, we can't begin to afford housing in the area, and low-income housing has months to years long waiting lists.
I came up with the idea of providing live-in care for someone who is a para or a quad and who has room in their home for my daughter and me. I would provide the same excellent care for that person that I do for my daughter.
Does this sound like a reasonable idea to anyone else? To me, it seems like a win-win situation--my daughter and I would get accessible housing, and someone who needs some help would get the best help possible.
I have a background in nursing care (prior to my daughter's injury) and a clean DMV, and have passed a Lifescan and DOJ background check.

I think this sounds like a great idea. I personally live in TX, but am from the tri-valley area. I have friends and family from there and know how expensive it can be. I am racking my brain, but don't know anyone off hand that needs the in-home care, but let me make some phone calls. I will get back to you in a couple of days after I contact everyone and see if they know of anyone who could use the care.

Thank you both for the kind words. I've been posting on craigslist but didn't think of advertising here until yesterday--slow, I know, but at least I thought of it eventually! Fingers crossed that this works. Our income now is just my daughter's SSI and the IHSS I get for caring for her. Together those total about what it would cost for a suitable apartment in the area, but unfortunately we also need to eat and have lights and heat and a/c (she is sensitive to temperature changes). And transportation to college and school supplies. So, shared housing seems the way to go. And I already know how to use catheters and do bowel program!

My brother became a quad on January 15 and will likely return home in about a month. He has a 4 bedroom house in Dublin. I told him about your post, and he is interested. He is single, and before his injury, he was a chiropractor. Please let me know if you are interested. If yes, please advise on the best method of contacting you.

I've gotten the word out to all my friends and family in the area. They are talking to all their friends and family. They are also checking the papers for you. If anything comes up I will let you ASAP. Keep us posted on your progress. I know I would love to know how it is going.
