I was in the Glasgow spinal unit (or the QENSIU) from the 23rd August 08 till the 20th October 08. Staff and physios were good, but there were a few rowdy patients. I was back in on the 17th March fo a fresh X-ray, and managed to see them in some detail this time. Scary stuff. Lots of new faces, i think i only saw one person that i recognised. There are a few other Scots so you are not alone.....

Hope he is getting on okay! The unit was needing to improve a few things when I was into. I havent been back to see what the improvements are like to gym and what used to be called the halfway house, think its called the step down unit now! who does he have as a physio?

LOL as an old Edenhall patient (1972) I promise you QENSIU is the improvement.... that said I'd still rather have Edenhall anyday.

Physios and OT's were good too. I had my physio from her second day all during her 8 month rotation so it was good to build up a relationship even if she was a readhead who was a bit mental when hungry.
Was back 2 weeks ago for me 6 week check and will go back in July again for another check up.
Was also down in Stoke Mandeville with 7 other SCI's representing the Glasgow unit in the UK inter spinal unit games, 13 teams in all.
I would not change my time there even though there were plenty of little things that were anoying overall it was good and I really appreciate all that they taught me.

Just a couple of miles over the hill from me, I live in Brookfield, and soon to be moving back to Houston (Scotland that is, not the Texas one!!)

I hope the Govan Warbler (as I called her) has been working on her singing, lets just say it needed improving

If by any chance any of you Govan Lassies see this you know I love you all, each and every one of you, and I know most of you are not from Govan really!

I've had ongoing problems since I reached 60 (had my break 40 years ago - spasm, constant scoliotic pain, sweating. I'm now 66 and the problems get worse. Little attempt is made to rectify or alleviate these.
Perhaps I'm wrong but there seems to me to be some animosity between SU and GPs ie the SU look on older paras as an ageing problem ergo it's the GPs concern rather than a spinal one. On more than one occasion I've been asked 'Have you seen your GP about this?' meaning 'what are you doing annoying us with your difficulties. See your GP.' All ageing problems are amplified if they happen to a spinal break.
It's about time they did some re-training regarding empathy and then followed through with some action.
