I have to ask this question. It has apparently been overlooked in Occupational Therapy training in several schools and in OT curriculum for SCI patients in many hospitals. I was taught in rehab to get dressed in bed. This is a HORRIBLE place to dress, especially on tempur-pedic! When I left rehab, a friend brought over the Murderball movie, and from that, I learned to dress in my wheelchair. I have since had the opportunity to do some volunteer work, and have have heard of some interesting places others with SCI get dressed. I have heard of different chairs (small chair with armrests), and have even met one para who dresses on the floor on a small mat. That one is crazy! I can't do it yet, but I'm working on it. I'm just curious as to other people's locations and methods.

i answered that i dress in my w-c that's partially true. when i wear dressees i w-c dress when i have to put on pants i usually dress in bed. i can do this in my chair but it's easier for me to pull them up in the bed. i think it's an old habit from rehab.

hi fellow gimps! i'm a c 6/7 quad and have been injured since 1986. i was in a roll over hydroplane accident and it took hours for the paramedics to get me out of the car in the pouring rain. that definately wasn't my day. but alas life goes on!

I dress mostly from the chair, but stand to pull up my pants.
Look! It's a snail! It's a sloth! Able to creep short distances before lunch!

Maybe because I never had rehab I didn't know you weren't supposed to dress standing up? I brace myself between my closet doors for pants. For a skirt I get dressed in bed. For a long dress my chair. Rare on the last one because I get pressure under my arms from that. Shirts always go on in the chair. If I can't keep myself upright for pants those also go on in bed, but I always get tangled up this way and many times my poor carer has shown up and been mooned that route.

If I'm in bed and the clothes are there I'll get dressed on the bed, if I'm already in the chair or have to get in to get my clothes then I'll dress in the chair.

Always the bed, way easier for me.
2 minute job, most of the time is spent dodging the round house kick and following me foot around the bed to stick a sock on it.
I can only assume those who dress from the chair are slight in stature.

Anything worth doing is worth doing in bed.
I would do everything in bed if I could.
I love my bed.

I am a quadriplegic and have to be dressed by someone else. It is easier for them to dress me in bed, and after I get in my chair, have them straighten my clothes out.

Dresses are a pain!

Bed for bottom 1/2 chair for top. I'm 100% dependant too FB, & I find getting my top 1/2 dressed in the chair is faster ... straightening out lumps'n bumps as you go. I'm all for saving time!

I get dressed in bed and undressed in my wheelchair.
