Hi. I'm new to the forum, though not new to SCI. I'm 33 and was in a car accident in 1984 and am a T12/L1 para as a result. I am getting a new car soon and i am sick of vans and sick of cars that gt sratched up and dirty inside from my chair. So, i am looking into a chair topper. Does anyone have one or has had one in the past that can give me any feedback?

thanks!

Laine

I think you're asking about the powered toppers for pickup trucks, so I'm going to go with that first. A friend of mine has one on 4X4 Dodge, and it's really nice. It's a Bruno, so it's pricey and hard to get paid for sometimes, but it's worth it if you don't want to put the chair inside the cab. He also has the Bruno lift in the back, so it makes the system a bit easier to use.

If you're asking about the toppers that go on top of the cab to hold a folding chair, I have no idea. Seems like a good idea, but from the demos I've seen at Turning Point and on videos, I would be likely to hit myself or the car door too often with the chair. It is something to look at though, and it does add lots of space in the cab.

Hope this helps.

Since you're talking about for the car top, I have another something to keep in mind for you. Vehicle width. With the added weight and volume to the top of the car, you want to have a fairly wide car. The issue is that wind has a greater effect on the smaller cars already, and they would be more difficult to drive with the added weight and surface area on the top. Also, they would be a bit easier to roll over, as they would have a higher center of gravity. At least that's the information given to me by a local installer. I haven't seen one (in person at least) on anything smaller than a full size to larger mid-size sedan.

Best wishes,
JAX
