They are best used over a long period of hours during the day, taking them off every few hours or so to catheterize certainly won't do the skin any favours in the long term, perhaps someone will suggest a product that uses a weaker glue?
The less stagnant urine in the bladder the less chance of UTI's developing, so drinking enough and emptying via cathing certainly 'should' reduce them, it's a matter of trial and error getting the balance right. My Urologyst told me that drinking 2 litres every 24 hrs is enough.
All the best

Because of high bladder pressures I’m having to contemplate bladder augmentation surgery sometime this year to reduce pressure.
It has been suggested to me that I may need one of these Artificial Sphincter implants as well.
I know that article covers most aspects, but perhaps you could answer some of these questions if you have the time.
Which one did they use on you? Or is there only one company that makes them?
How long was the surgery?
Does the fluid reservoir protrude from your belly, or where do they place it?
How long did you have to wait before being able to use it?
Any negative points you have encountered so far?
Thanks again!

I use Jade Ultra Flex M520. They are Silicone Self-Adhering. www.rocm.com
I've used many types of Condom/Sheath and gradually built up an allergy to latex. I changed to these 6 years ago and they're perfect for me. I wear mine 24 hours and change it every morning.
Illinois Boy! .. Mine were a special order so had to be made from Tractor Innertubes...
Did anyone see that flying pig?..

Do they do something to make your own sphincter stay relaxed, so you can void when the new one is loosened?
If that's the case, the first example looks pretty good.

The injury did it for me. I have no bladder sphincter tension, or bowel sphincter tension. A good urologist can fix it that way, but will probably try to talk you out of it first. I believe my urologist said that if somebody didn't mind still having to cath, they can leave your sphincter as is.
It is a life changer. With no retention at all, and all the problems with leg bags, I was constantly wet. Now, I can ride an ATV with no leakage. And to top it off, the UTIs are a whole lot less likely to happen. I almost fell out of my chair when the urologist told me he could stop the leakage completely. I had no idea they had anything like it available. He said it's something originally developed for older fellas, but he has put them in several paras. They also have a similar device for bowels.
