Can anyone help me,my husband who has been tetraplegic for 16years (c7 incomplete) was admitted into hospital 4months ago with pneumonia, septasemia and a collapsed lung (hope spellings right). He has been ventilated since then, they are still trying to reduce his oxygen support but it doesnt look to hopeful that he will be able to manage without the ventilation. We have now been told that he may not be able to come home even with a nursing package (we're both gutted about this). Is there anyone in the same situation as us, any advice would be most helpful.

Hi, We live in Chester, u.k. Where are you from? It has been a nightmare and it doesn't seem as if its going to get any better foralong time yet.Life can be very cruel can't it, as if he hasn't been through enough with his spinal injury. It's very frustrating for him as he can't talk yet due to his trache. Hopefully things will get better, there's always somebody worse off than yourself isn't there!!!!

My fiance found himself paralyzed both legs and one arm 2 yrs ago. C1-C7. He is also on life support and he lives at home. I take care of him. Michael also has nursing through Michael Dallas Waiver program. Doctors fought my taking him home, we refused nursing home.

As long as he is alert, and most of all, if not done, and he is alert, GET HIM TO SIGN FOR U TO BE HIS MEDICAL POWER OF ATTORNEY IMMEDIATELY.

WISH I KNEW WHERE U AT

DOCS DONT LIKE TO SEND VENT PATIENTS HOME. U CAN BE TAUGHT TO CARE FOR HIM, AND USE THE VENT. DONT LET THEM FOOL YOU. IT WILL BE GETTING THE INSURANCE TO PAY FOR EQUIPMENT HE WILL NEED. IT IS NOT AN EASY JOB, BUT HE WILL LOSE EVERYTHING IN 6 MONTHS BY GOING TO A NURSING HOME WHERE HE WILL NOT BE CARED FOR PROPERLY.
