A crazy, fantastic, super film: SOULKITCHEN. OK, a German film. Don't yawn! Made by a Turkish director, Fatih Akin. It is very funny, has a great soundtrack (strange mixture of soul, German hiphop, Greek and Turkish music). We went to see it without any expectations around Christmas and came out of the cinema with a huge smile on our faces. By now, it has won a prize in Venice, won over 1 million viewers in Germany, will be shown in about 50 countries - and perhaps the charm is gone with the fame, I don't know. If you watch it, you might like to tell me if you like it. Tastes differ - still one of my absolute, all-time favourites! :D

Watched a re-run of Gunfight at the OK Corral (1957) last night. Kirk Douglas was brilliant as Doc Holliday but Burt Lancaster was as wooden as ever.

Watched Jeremiah Johnson late last night, for the 100th time I'm guessing...
Followed it up with The Last Castle and Sneakers...
I was in a Robert Redford mood last night...all great movies, wilderness, honor, humor...it was a good evening!

I went to the cinema last night.
This film is the absolute success in France and Germany at the moment. Hardly possible to get tickets. And worth seeing ...

.... an incredible mix of the melancholy and the totally funny and the heart-warming ...
great actors. A very French film. True story, BTW.
Not sure everybody likes the non-politically-correct humour. I did. My SCI friend did, too.

------------------------------------------
Intouchables
From Wikipedia

Intouchables (Untouchable) is a French film directed by Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano.

In just 9 weeks after its release in France on November 2, 2011, it became the second most successful French film of all time (in number of spectators) in the French box office, behind the 2008 film Welcome to the sticks.

The feel-good dramatic comedy has become a cultural phenomenon in France where it was voted cultural event of the year 2011 by 52% of the French.

The movie tells the development of the improbable friendship between Philippe, a wealthy tetraplegic, and Driss, a young offender of Senegalese descent, who is hired as his live-in carer.

The plot of the film is inspired by a true story discovered by the directors in a 2004 documentary film.

--------------------------

The film won the Tokyo Sakura Grand Prix award given to the best film at the Tokyo International Film Festival and the Award for Best Actor to both Francois Cluzet and Omar Sy in 2011.

In the United States , a review published in Variety finds the movie "offensive" ,"which flings about the kind of Uncle Tom racism one hopes has permanently exited American screens". In the film Driss (Omar Sy) is of Senegalese descent. Most French journalists do not understand such an interpretation and highlight the cultural issue that America has with anything linked to ethnicity.

-------------------

(I chose the German trailer as the English version focuses on scenes I like a lot less. No German necessary - the scenes speak for themselves.)

Disclaimer: I apologize for this really LONG post .. I just couldn't decide what to leave out.

Kill the Irishman. In my opinion one of the best movies of last year, and it's based on a true story. If you like violence, love revenge, and can endure another mob story, this is for you.

I like foreign films. I want to see this one as well.

Recently I watch two movies which are foreign

The Stoning of Soraya M. which is based on a true story. Very sad of how women are portrayed in the muslim world.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1277737/

http://en.wikipedia....ing_of_Soraya_M

And another one titled Black Heaven which is a wicked drama film.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1479269/

There not new but their great movies.

2 words. Mission Impossible. I absolutely love that series of films. I also like foreign films. Black Heaven was great! I suggest watching Downfall and "The Millenium-series" (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest) if you have Netflix. All GREAT films!
Fear is the dumbest thing that we've ever created in our minds; its just so stupid... it stands in the way of everything and it achieves nothing.

Finally saw Paranormal Activity 3 on Saturday. As a fan of the franchise and horror-addict who thinks that the first two movies were well done, words cannot express my disappointment with this third and latest installment.

I can agree with this too. The ending was all right, but the rest of it was pretty meh. Notice that its by a different director though, so that might explain it. I thought the first one was amazing, the atmosphere built up with those humming noises work great.

Killer elite and the double are worth the view also.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was very good, I agree, I've also watched the original trilogy in Swedish (dubbed, languages are not one of my strong points) and it is very true to the original. Recommend watching the originals especially if they choose to make more which seems likely.
