In February my wife and I went out looking for a replacement for my Land Rover Discovery II, which was about to turn 100k miles. Made an appointment to test drive a new one at local main dealer, tuned up, demo car not available as sales-rep had taken it home for the weekend, and generally treated as a pair of idiots, (should have been an easy sell for them, as I have had 5 Land Rovers over the past 14 years).

Walked out and went next door to another maker’s dealership, and to cut a long story short, picked this up on the 1st March..............

Taken outside dealer on the morning we picket it up.

Taken in my garage testing out the boot winch.

Has been great fun, driving has become a pleasure again, not a chore! :mfrlol:

That's sweet!! I like the lift. So it comes out the trunk, swivels, lowers the chair, and then retracts itself and the trunk shuts? That is really a neat design. I need to find one here in the states like that, as my wife and I are hoping to get a car soon. It will be used mostly by her as a daily driver, but on occasional long trips, she likes for me to drive. Would you mind sharing the information about that lift? It would be much appreciated.

I also have to say that car is beautiful! What is it?

Hi Jax,

The winch is not automatic, (though the boot does open by remote, a standard feature). It is a very simple but effective design; it has a pivot base bolted to the left hand-side of the boot and then a cantilevered boom arm that can rotate 360 degrees. It is very easy to raise and lower the winch one-handed and no strength is required, and when not in use, it just folds flat in an L shape, (will be happy to take some pictures if you would like).

I cannot remember the makers name, but I will have a look at the winch tomorrow and post it here, (I know they have a website, because that’s how I found them).

It took me quite a while to find a winch that would fit into the boot space, and I found that most companies I emailed for info did not bother to reply, (as well as the SCI, I had a stroke (CVA) a few years back and my speech has not returned a 100% so I don't like using the telephone).

Anyhow, after weeks of trying to track down a supplier/installer, I managed to find one just ten miles from here, and they liaised with the supplying car dealer to get it all installed ready for me to pick-up the car on March 1st! (our car registration numbers here in the UK are aged related and they age code in the number plate changes twice a year, on the 1st March and the 1st September

The car is a 2009 Jaguar XF, (it's just 32 days old), my first ever brand new car. :mfrlol:
