I, like gretbeard, smoked from 14,, and a pack a day or more from 18 till I quit the last time, at 50. I tried the gum,, the patches,,even tried hypnosis when I was in my thirties.
The only thing that really works for anyone is the real desire. Nothing works if you don't have that,,, and any of the above will work if you do. I quit many times,,,, several times for a month or so,, twice for over six monthes,, one time for just over a year,, and so far, for 12 years this time. Nothing is absolute,, and you only quit until your next smoke.
I don't intend to smoke again,,, but you never know,,, oh,, and by the way,, I still get the urge.
You want to quit? Quit! even if it's just for one hour,,,, this time,,, and don't stop trying just because you smoke one,, or one pack..
Even if you don't stop completely,,,, less is still better,,, only buy one pack at a time,,, don't bum,,, when the pack is empty, try to wait till the next day to buy another.
One more thing,,,, if you do manage to give them up,,, you'll gain about 10% of your body weight in the next month or two. You might lose it again,,, or you might not. You gotta decide which is worse for you,,, the smoke or the weight,,,
