I've posted to this forum in the past, and I always preface my posts with a statement that I'm sorta hesitant. I don't have an SCI, but I have a baclofen pump due to spasticity from a neurological condition--oftentimes I've been able to get good advice from this board even though my disability isn't as severe as that of some people.

Anyway, over the past few months (I've had my pump about 20), I've been experiencing constant discomfort in the upper leg below my pump site--not agonizing, but wnen I sit it really feels like my pump extends all the way into my leg. I went to my family doctor halfway expecting him to find a hernia, but he suggested that I might be having problems with a buildup of scar tissue. Has anybody ever had a similar problem? I've never heard of such and wonder if there's a way to determine if that's the problem without surgery (would a CAT scan find it?). I'd appreciate any input--

Thanks, Bill

Bill,

I don't have any answers for you put I am experiemcing similar problems. I have a pump but mine is inserted in my lower back close to by butt. ( my pump kept flipping hince the placement). I have been experiening pain at the site when I sleep on my back for longer than 30 min or even when I try to sleep on my rt side. Now it is bothering me when i sit sometimes.

I have mentioned it to my rehab dr who handles all my pump issues and he sort of dismisses me. Last night it hurt 30 min after I laid down. I wondered if it was built up scar tissue too.

There is another medical center 1 1/2 away that I am thinking of going to that handles pumps as well. Maybe they can answer my questions.

Please keep me up to date as to your progress. ldeblaker@nc.rr.com

Lori,

I'm pretty much resigned to living with it unless/until it gets a lot worse. I had a routine checkup the other day, and after taking with my family doctor again, apparently the only sure way to determine if scar tissue's the problem is to cut and look. I don't think the problem as it stands justifies surgery. They'll have to replace my pump in 3 years, and if there's a problem they can tend to it then.

Good luck with your problem--

Bill
