Hi,

I was involved in a quad accident two and a half years ago and have been left paralysed from the waist down after my Spinal Injury at T12 level. Ever since my accident I have suffered from Neuropathic Nerve root pain above my knee also sometimes resulting in a burning sensation and up until now I have been on high levels of morphine each day but it doesn't seem to be relieving my pain . Is anyone else suffering from this and can anyone recommend any other pain relief they have tried?

Many Thanks

I take Lyrica (200mg) 3 times daily for nerve related pain and have had good luck.

Have you tried the nerve med route yet? Pregabalin (Lyrica), gabapentin (Neurontin), amytriptylline and a few more who's names escape me at the moment! Also, it sounds like you have built up a tolerance to the morphine, have you tried something different? Fentanyl, oxycodone or methadone for example? Ask for a referral to a specialist pain clinic, not only can they advise on drugs but also alternatives such a cognitive behavioural therapy and other coping techniques

For me, the best thing seems to be just stay busy and keep my mind off the pain. Really...

I agree with Hawkeye....keeping busy/occupied is priceless, even if its doing things you don't really want to do; once you are started, a bit of adrenaline flowing things are not so bad.

That said, I'm not quite so sure about H's life membership of the NRA, but that's another story.
