Help
Hi,
Does anyone in the Pittsburgh/ Northern Pennsylvania/ Eastern Ohio area know anything about hunting with SCI? My fiance is a big hunter and thought he had to give up hunting now, but I heard there are still options for him to hunt...anyone have any info?

It is still very much possible. The only extra necessity is planning in advance... oh and also you can get a permit to hunt from a four wheeler or auto, and can use a crossbow all through archery season. So there are lost of options if you want to do it independently but most states also had programs where they can physically help and provide a location to hunt.... usually a state reserve.

If he happens to be a veteran, there is an organization called the Keystone Paralyzed Veterans of America. They organize different hunting venues throughout the year.
Another group that helps out vets, is a local group called the Wounded Warriors,,, they set up hunting And fishing events , also.
There is also a antlerless dear hunt for anyone with a disability, that is set up through the North Fayette Township. It is an early hunt and the group sets us up on stands, pushes the woods, and if we get a deer, they drag, dress, AND have it butchered... Not a bad deal, eh?
North Fayette Township is south west of Pittsburgh,, the Bridgeville area.

What's his level of disability? There is some adaptive equipment available to help hunters of virtually any level... I've worked with a lot of it.

I am an quad for 25 years living in NW, PA. I hunt/fish with a crossbow & rifle and I can help with getting him started w/resources & ideas. The biggest problem is finding hunting land wheelchair accessible. Drop me a line for help or if you know of wheelchair accessible hunting areas in the NW,PA area
