I have heard good things about manuka honey. Is it really as promising as it reputation? I really need this pressure sore to heal , which makes me vulnerable to any method introduced. At the same time, I dont what to make a bad situation worse. Having said that, is manuka honey the answer?

I used manuka honey on a couple of pressure sores I had on my ankles. It helped quite a lot initially but eventually the improvement seemed to plateau, but it was definitely worth it.

I tried the Medi-Honey brand; at first I thought it made a difference but not a huge one; it certainly didn't hurt. What really mattered was that I stopped using the traditional wet-to-dry gauze and started trying various hydrocolloid and other type dressings. His Stage IV that hadn't healed for 5 months was gone in a few weeks. Maybe it was just dumb luck but I was happy!

I'm with hooplady, I use DuoDERM CGF (control gel formula dressing ) when I get a ps and they heal in a couple of weeks. You could probably use the honey with the dressing but the dressing needs to stay on for 3-5 days before changing it.

They make it here in New Zealand and I think they are even using it in some bandages. There is a special version which has some ingredient in it that supposedly helps healing called UMF 16. I saw it on a farming show over here a while ago. It would be worth a go if you are into natural healing. Just look out for bees. :mfrlol:
