I'm a home designer here from South Louisiana. I've been in a wheelchair since 1989, so I know a thing or two about mods needed for homes. If anyone here has a particular question or need free advice, I can maybe help. This includes existing or new home mods. You can post questions here and i'll check in from time to time.

Can you post some ideas or previous designs for roll in showers? Built in bench, suitable shower head, and plenty of shelving for soaps all needed for independent living? I'd appreciate it, in the process of brainstorming right now..

Ches,
We just remodeled our guest bathroom...last year, before my hospital vacation started lol.
It has a roll in ADA compliment shower, the bathroom is kinda narrow, so it does not meet all ADA regulations, it was okay'ed by our local building authorities. It has grab bars, built-in shelves for soap, shampoo etc. and the seating options are too many to list. My mother-in-law uses it right now, but its open enough for this 6ft 200lb guy to use.
I'll do my best to get you the designs/drawings, a picture or two and the website we got the modular shower and accessories from. We used a local design/remodeling company to do the install, all went well, we are very happy.
FYI, given the space restrictions and a somewhat limited budget, we did not change the vanity, mirror or sink. When my mother-in-law no longer uses it we are planning to replace the low vanity/sink with higher wall mounted shelving and a pedestal type sink.
Jerry
PS. Maybe if you make it out this way before you do your remodeling, you can see what we've done...good luck

Ches,
We built a new bathroom about two years ago, and it's worked out very well. It has a 5' X 6' roll in shower. Ideally it would have been 6' X 6', but we were a little tight on space.
The shower floor is tiled, as are the 3 walls, up to 7'. Full length shower curtain on the 4th side. The floor has just enough slope to drain well to the center drain. IIRC... about 1" drop from the walls to the center of the floor drain.
Two built in corner shelves, one at around 5' high for seldom used stuff, and the other down around 1' high, for my wife to use when shaving her legs. There is also an inset shelf at just under 4' high for daily used soap and shampoo.
Full length stainless grab bars on all 3 walls. Over kill for what I need now, but you never know when circumstances may change.
Common hand held shower head with a single water temperature/on-off knob.
No bench, as I use a Mariner shower chair.
Good Luck...
Joe
