I am celebrating my birthday today. I am 33-years-old and it was four years ago since I had my sci. How time flies. I am thankful for every bit of blessing I recieved most especially that of health and life. It is only this year that (2006) I am celebrating my birhtday outside the hospital because for the past years I was confined in the hospital for one reason or another.

Coupled with the excitement and gratitude of another year of life is FEAR. I feel afraid of growing "old" in the sense that I have to depend on others. Inasmuch as I have lived a "seize the day" attitude outlook, this fear for the future still disturbs me.

I appreciate the strength which most of you have shown and shared in this forum in managing your daily lives. I wish that this zest for life spreads and never wanes.

Don't worry abouit getting old. You are year younger than I was when I was first paralysed! You are only as young as you think and I don't really feel any old even though I just past 57.

Anyway, Happy Birthday!

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BENOK!!!! :)

Enjoy your day! :mfrlol:

Getting older can be a little scarier for us spineys, but keep in mind that the 'old' today, doesn't look like the same 'old' when we were younger. I'm nearing 50, and honestly, I don't feel any older than when I was 33...although at 33 I thought 50 was ancient. All we can do is plan for our advancing age the best we can, while keeping ourselves in the present and living it to the fullest.

Have a blessed day, benok!

Happy Birthday Benok !!!

i was 31 when i got my sci ~ i remember the same feeling, that when i looked into the future, it didn't look so good. and if i looked backwards, me walking, i got really sad. so, like Joed said, the only choice was to stay in the present moment.

now i am very close to 40 ~ and it really truly does get better! the same stuff that would have me crying and depressed 'back then', now it barely phases me. so i am able to stay happy more and for longer periods. so happiness doesn't depend on my circumstances ~ who would have ever thought that?

i just had a dear woman tell me, as i was very upset about almost being 40 with no family and no husband.. she told me that her 40's were the best years of her life!

so we have LOTS to look :mfrlol: forward to !!!!!

Enjoy the JOY, we are with you!
the only thing to worry about .. is worry

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, BENOK!!!!!

My b/f was injured at age 16. He's seen many bd's since. He's now 53. They told the family at the time if he made it through the night they'd operate. He's a c5 quad.

I'd say just go out there and live each day, each month, and each year to the fullest!!! We all worry about the future, but don't let it get you down.

DON'T WORRY!!! BE HAPPY!!!
B/F is Quad C 4,5,6 incomplete as of July 27, 1969.

:) HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, BENOK!

Don't worry about getting older, just try to find something good in each passing day. I turned 50 in August and honestly, I don't feel a day over 35!!!!!! At least mentally and let's face it, it's all about mindset anyway.
All the best!
