Hi! Got a question. Are there any alternatives to oxybutynin? My husband has been on it for quite a while, however, it gives him dry mouth...the dry mouth isn't the problem, it the congestion. He stopped taking the medicine for 2 weeks and his congestion went away. When we wakes up in the morning he has to cough and hack and his voice is very hoarse while on this medication. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
God will never give me anything that I cannot handle.....I just wish he didn't trust me so much!

I'm definately going to look into the Kentera. Thanks!

He never had any problems with incontinence until he had his urodynamics test several months ago. It has been under control on the oxy (2 times a day 5mg...one in the morning and one at night) However, it makes him very congested...when he went off the medication for two weeks, the congestion went away completely.....We are looking for something that doesn't cause they dry mouth...or at least not as bad as it is with the oxy...

I've been taking oxybutynin (Ditropan) in one dose or another for over 29 years. For dry mouth, I learned to always have something to drink at hand, and keep plenty of hard candy around. For the morning congestion, I use an over the counter Primatene Mist rescue inhaler.

BTW: the once a day extended release version of oxybutynin seems to work much better and has less side effects than low dosage multiple pills per day.

Other drugs to investigate: Enablex, Toviaz, Vesicare, Detrol, and Sanctura.

Good Luck...

Joe

I tried detrunorm a few weeks ago.. I lasted three days! MAde me throw up each time. I went back to oxy. Not every medicine is better than the next, eveyones different , adn the bladder problems affect every one so differently. I take 30mg of oxy XL a day, and up it to 40 when I need to...when its a Pims jug ;)
