Hey there,

We're in the process of having to change caregivers also, due to a change in funding with our current provider. I spoke with our MLA who suggested the following program, available for Canadians. It basically allows to you find someone overseas and they move to Canada specifically as your live-in caregiver.

I don't know if this is the route we are plannign to take and have to look into the details, but I thought others could make use of this information.

Step 1: You need to get a LMO: Labor Market Opinion from Service Canada
(See link below) for how you can do that.

http://www.cic.gc.ca...giver/index.asp

To give priority to Canadians you have to list the position for at least
2 weeks on the national job board.

The LMO will be valid for a specific position (not person) for a certain
period of time.

Step 2: Once you hire someone they would take the LMO to their embassy
and apply for a work permit.

Usually for live in caregivers they need some type of formal education
(credentials). Not like a University or College Degree but rather some
sort of formal training or some courses relating to what they do.

Good luck to all!

KJM
