I am having a flap performed on Monday after being on the wound vac for 5 months. My doctor's secretary called and informed me not to return the wound vac. According to her, without the ability to explain, I will need the wound vac after the flap surgery Havent spoke with the surgeon, he is always " in with a patient or performing a surgery". Nonetheless, has any used a wound vac after a having a flap performed or have you heard of such?

Sounds like the Dr is going to leave something open. Do you have more than one wound?

No, I have just one wound. Why do a flap if you are going to leave something open. I hope thats not the case.

I'm only guessing, here,,, but it sounds like yours is not that simple of a job. May be size, skin condition, or any number of other things that would cause him to worry about success.

Or,, he might just be hedging his bet,,,, getting restarted on the WVac, might take a while, so keepeing it for one extra month is probably good insurance, even if you don't need it. I kept mine for that long after my ulcer healed,,, again,, just in case.

What have you used to heal wound other than vac. Did vac reduce the size of the wound?
