Hi I work as a carer/support worker for a lovely lady with SCI. I would like to know if anyone can recommend a therapy pool with good disabled access, warm water, hoist etc that we could use in our area. Surely there's somewhere but I think it must be a closely guarded secret!! There is one at Salisbury hospital but I was hoping to find one nearer than that (27 miles). Can anyone suggest anywhere? Any members from East Dorset UK for a chat?

There is one in the Nuffield Hospital, Lansdowne Road, Bournemouth. I used it while being convalescing from knee replacement, but that surgery was done within that hospital. I don't know whether non-hospital patients could use it. It is certainly worth enquiring.

Try contacting any special needs schools in the area. Sometimes they have their own pool which is available to hire or may at least be able to tell you which facilities they use for their pupils.

Thanks for your quick replies!! I will certainly try phoning the Nuffield. We tried the pool at Portfield School (Wessex Autistic Society). That was a good start, but they only had a trolley to transfer onto from the water, and it was too short. The water was too deep for me to feel secure in my role as assistant - I was on my tiptoes with water up to my neck. Not sure whether this may be the best we will find - very good in a lot of ways. Thanks again.
