Hello:

My father recently had an operation which left him paralyzed at T-9. He is 70 and my parents have always loved to cruise. At issue is that his upper body strength is not strong enough to move him from the wheelchair to the bed or out and to the toilet. Bowel training will make the toileting easier however do cruises every provide people to lift or help people in his condition? Or must we bring our own caregivers with us?

Any help or feedback would be much appreciated as we are just starting to get our heads around this change and are trying to look forward.

I think it depends on the cruise line, but some have handicapped accessible rooms/suites and some even have hoyer lifts available for pool and maybe private use too. You should check with the individual cruise lines to see who provides what. As far as assistive care on the cruise ship, no.....I don't think so. Not that I've ever heard.
