My husband is T11, 9 months post injury. We are traveling to Las Vegas in July. This will be our first vacation since the accident. All suggestions are welcome. I think we are staying at the Rio.

Here are some things I'm not sure about...

1. can we ship his supplies to the hotel in advance?
2. what about a shower chair, his doesn't fold down, can we rent one?

So many thing running through my mind, I just want a smooth trip so he will want to go again and again.

I've traveled extensively over the past 11 years, mostly alone, and the most important thing that I can tell you is that it will be easier than you think.

Las Vegas is very wheelchair accessible. Besides having to conform to the normal ADA-regulations, it's also a tourist city that sees a lot of different people, of all ages and abilities. Your biggest discomfort will be the crowds, so be sure you're both comfortable navigating those.

Call the hotel, get to speak to someone, remember their name, and keep in pleasant contact with them. Especially in the current economy, they want your business, so they should be responsive to requests. Ask for a fully accessible room with a fully accessible bathroom, with a shower or bath chair. Ask them if they have a photo of said room, or can describe it.

I thought about shipping cathing suppies but then after I thought about it, it's not like cathing supplies take up that much room and what happens if my shipment doesn't make it. So I will probably just take everything with me and not ship it.

That's probably for the best. There'd only be a need to ship something if it was very bulky, which, as you mention, isn't really the case here.

Vegas really is a good first wheelchair vacation spot because it's so organized around things being easy. I'm sure you'll manage everything.
