Hi all,

I've had my SPC for a few years now and have been through a few things with it; not plain sailing at all!

The problem I've got now is that for the last few months the site has been bleeding (no blood in urine). I'm not talking a tiny drop but enough to go through clothes. It's also very painful. I get more bladder spasms now, which is saying something.

A District Nurse in the UK took a swab of the site and the results came back negative/all clear. I explained that I hadn't had a trauma to the site and she gave me a box of dressings that I'm using daily. I really don't know what to do or ask for if I go back and see a doctor. Any one any ideas as to what's going on? What I should do?

Hi, I see there hasn't been a reply to your post yet and wonder if I can help. I have a supra pubic cath for nearly two years and really have few probs.
I do get a condition called 'granuloma' which is an overgrowth of mucous membrane tissue in the stoma site that protrudes out around the cath. It is very prone to bleeding and gets mucky with a purulent looking ooze. It needs to be 'burnt' off periodically with silver nitrate sticks, a painless procedure done by a stoma nurse here in Australia.
This may be the cause of your bleeding.

I went to my Dr. with your info and I'm awaiting a hospital apt. Let's hope they do something!
