So people are born lurkers,
some people become lurkers which is no fault of their own
and other people are lurkers by choice.

Hello all. I live in Arizona. I am T12 complete SCI since 1992 due to balcony fall and resulting fracture. My actual sensation loss though is at T8.
I just had another surgery to fuse from T10 down through pelvis to fix resulting scoliosis. So, as I am recuperating, I have been searching through the site.
I did post last week about vena cava filters and anyone with experience on them. My surgeon had one put in to catch any blood clots that could travel up. I had a clot in 1992 and have been on aspirin since. Surgeon says to leave filter in permanently but I am not so sure and have 60 days to decide before the filter becomes attached to vein walls and difficult to remove.
Because of new fusion, I am back in physical therapy again after 17 years and feel like a new injury again as everything, including posture and balance, has changed. To top it off, my chair no longer fits correctly! Going in for new wheelchair evaluation this week. I love having a straight spine again though but surgery (2 separate days of it) was brutal!

Just wanted to introduce myself and say hi to all.

Hey Char, welcome to the club.
I've had a Vena Cava Filter since '89 and never had a problem with it.

Hi my name is Levi, I'm a 31 yr old male surviving with C-7- C-8 level quad level of function.
Initially diagnosed with Transverse Myelitus in 2002 then neuro added MS as a diagnosis in 2004 but denied TM being an inaccurate diagnosis. I am surviving these illnesses, several other defects I was born with, and a few awarded to me via the good ole family gene pool. I am also a survivor of a closed head injury obtained in a car accident.

I've been lurking here for a very long time and wasnt really motivated to do any different till I came across this thread. I've found the stories, experiences, humor and even sadness shared here to be a very motivating tool to aid in my own continued survival of physical ilness.

I don't know that I was a "lurker" per se, but I'd filtered through here once or twice!
My wife of three years is a T10 para (and pregnant at the moment). Also I am an orthotist/prosthetist and she is an occupational therapist... so if anyone has any possible query... shoot.

Hello,
I'm new and have only been lurking since yesterday. Also, I am the wife of someone with recent SCI. After this post I will move over to the spouse/caregiver thread.

Just to explain - my husband had elective lumbar fusion surgery called Dynamic Stabilization on his bottom four discs/vertabrae on May 5th. He awoke in the recovery room after the surgery unable to move his left leg and very weak in the right leg, also had bladder retention.
The doctors at that hospital gave a misdiagnosis of acute transverse myelitis. He was transferred to a different (i.e. better) hospital on the 8th day after his surgery. The MRI done there showed thoracic infarctions ("stroke") - quote - "bilateral T2 signal in a snake-eyes distribution at the T2 level involving the left hemicord at T4, high T2 signal within the left hemicord at level T7 to T8 and high signal at T2 and dorsal cord right of central at T9 level. Impression is multilevel infarcts in the thoracic cord". He apparently has what is called bilateral paraparesis. He can move his right leg some, but doesn't feel temperature in it. The left leg, he CAN feel temperature but is unable to move the leg on it's own. I think he also lost feeling in his abdomen, lower back etc., even though I don’t know for sure.
He has been in rehab for four weeks and will probably be there for another four. We don't yet know how far the rehab will get him. The catheter was removed on June 11th and the bladder seems to be functioning okay so far. He is able to get around with a walker - actually tries to be Mr. Macho and use a cane or hold onto walls, etc. - NOT good, at least not yet - but is spending the majority of time in the wheelchair. The "walking" really wears him out and his balance is not good at all. I will probably have a lot of questions in the coming weeks, as we will have to make major changes at home.

Hello everyone...
I stumbled upon this site a couple times in the past and the couple times I did I found myself reading through the posts. When I happened on it again this time I decided to go ahead and register with y'all.

Must have been the Post about "All the lurkers in the house"

I reckon I could give a bit of a background...
I'm a Para T10 complete injury since Oct of 2003, motorcycle accident, a car turned left into me hitting me head on. Sustained multiple injuries, to many to list, of which one was the back injury. Been through a lot of ups and downs through the years since my injury and am still adjusting. I give all thanks to the Lord for bringing me through the darkest hours and for blessing me with a very caring and devoted wife who has been with me through it all. I was blessed being retired military service with good insurance and a service connected injury from past so I can use the SCIU with the VA Hospital. (I receive very good care at this facility) I live just a few miles from a VA SCIU so this helps out as well. At 5 years since coming out of the hospital from my injury I am still learning and consider myself a novice.

Hope to get to know y'all in the future.
T.

Hello!

Oooops, guess I've been spotted... I was a lurker, have been for the past couple of days, but finally found the courage to join in.

Would like to send a special thank you to the creator of this site as it is the most informative one that I have found! I am the friend/caregiver with some questions and will post accordingly. Again, thank you for this site!
