I got injured about eight years ago; its a prolapsed disc L 4-5 with Schmorl's node. I am not exactly sure if I have always had a sweating problem, but something definitely changed about four years ago. Now I sweat like anything, actually its more like I drip, its a continuous stream falling and everyone stares at me. I need to be right below the fan; if I turn it I start sweating. When I touch the back, it is always warm, but I don't really have any fever. On top of this, I've noticed something with the bladder as well: sometimes I'm just sitting and all of a sudden I want to piss and I have to run to the bathroom and its really difficult to control, and then a very small amount comes out. I know it wasn't so previously; a long time back I could hold back four times more than this easily, now I just have to run to the bathroom.

The doctor recommended some blood tests, like thyroid, diabetes, liver function test, renal function test, but its all normal, the tests don't show anything wrong. The only thing that is not exactly normal is the fat (or lipid profile or whatever its called), and even that is just slightly high, not really much (I am overweight but not all that so). I'm taking diclofen pretty regularly for the pain.

And yes, I've noticed that every time I smoke, the sweating seems to start up, so as soon as I smoke, I have to sit under the fan for a while or else I'll start sweating.

Any suggestions?

it could be pain related? perhaps your body is sweating as a way to tell you that you've got something wrong but you just can't feel it?

I heard smoking raises the blood pressure, maybe thats causing the sweating...

Wild shot here..

Sounds like something pretty serious inside is causing AD.. the way you describe your need to urinate sounds like a symptom of a spasm, AD related. I do exact same thing after intense therapy.

I know this sounds outrageous but what if it's something in your abdomen (area), idk what sticks around that long, maybe a tumor? Stones? Idk.. four yrs and sudden onset with Ad like symptoms on a Low injury, just seems kinda odd to me.. something would have to be pretty serious for it to affect you that way.

You and doc keep looking!

I've been C6 SCI for 34 years and I had many sweating periods of time without any particular reason.

First of all check you blood preasure when you lie down. If it is high ask your doctor to read this http://www.nature.co...df/3100680a.pdf article.
After I'm taking antihypertensive pills I have no sweating and most importantly my pissing is much, much better.

Wish you success

I have a slightly high blood pressure, near the upper border. My pulse though is definitely always high, it is always above 90.

I didn't understand this thing about the pain: if there is pain, I would feel it, isn't it? And if it was kidney stones, I would have felt something by now. From what I've heard, kidney stones are the worst kind of pain. Actually I have felt a kind of pain that is at times somewhat acute (but not all that strong as what I had experienced in the back earlier, or with sciatica) - this pain is generally at the extreme right side, to the front (stomach), just at the point where the hip bone starts and it sort of feels like it is moving to the back. Earlier I used to think I've messed up my liver by taking too many medicines, then a person who has had kidney stones diagnosed told me I might want to get it checked because the symptoms were similar to those of stones.

I was hoping the sweating thing might be more of a psychological thing which could be solved with breathing exercises...

Thanks all.

AD isnt very likely at your level but if you have no or compromised sensation you might not feel a kidney stone or anything below your level.

A simple x-ray will tell you if there's a stone or not. When I had a bladder stone, those symptoms were spot on. . . . but I didn't smoke to instigate it.-lol
