Hello again, my son Darren has had leaking problems for the past month. Went to urologist and had an x ray which showed a "strange shaped object" which the urologist said he was certain wasn't a stone!!!!!!! I should point out that we have lost faith in the urologist and are in the process of changing!! Anyway, that was last Friday. He gave Darren more stronger muscle relaxants and sent him on his way. Since Friday Darren has had lots of leaking which is really getting him down. In our own Docs today with another UTI. When we came home Darren had another accident in the car. He went into his room to do SIC's. He called me in and showed me a "strange shaped object" which he had just passed!! Looks to me like a bladder stone??? Could this be the root of his problems? Could this be the cause of his muscle spasms and UTI's?
We are going to ring his urologist nurse tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone on here has had the same problems?
Thanks in advance,
Audrey and Darren

Hi,
See if his spasms and leaking subside over the next few days, if they do, then I think you can put the irritation of the bladder down to a stone.
If the X-ray showed a larger mass than the stone, or the bladder issues continue, he really needs a Cystoscopy, to take a look inside the bladder for possible answers.

Hi Audrey and Darren,
Your story sounds a lot like ours. My son has had leaking problems for a while now. His injury happened 10 months ago, T12 complete. We've lost faith in our urologists as well. (on our second one now!) The leaking drives Mike crazy and it generally happens when he transfers or simply presses up and then down in his chair. Mike has had many UTI's and has passed a variety of stones. We took them with us to the urologist and they were not too concerned about them but did agree that they were probably part of the problem with the UTI's. But then again having many UTI's is what can create the stones. The cloudy urine concentrates into the stones. We have had a bladder xray and ultrasound done but they say nothing unusual was found. Unfortunately we are coming to realize his leaking is probably from a relaxed bladder sphincter or a spasming sphincter. Not too much they can do for that but we're not giving up. He has been on a medicine to paralyze the bladder, detrol then oxybutynin, but that seemed to make it worse and also made him more depressed. Please tell Darren he's not alone and Mike knows just how he feels. We've been leaving a catheter in all night and that has helped with the UTI's. It prevents bacteria from breeding in the bladder all night. I wish we had some solutions. I posted the topic regarding Mike's problem the other day and some good suggestions came back. Mike doesn't even like going anywhere right now because of the situation. But we are looking into condom catheters. We've ordered some samples. It may not get rid of the problem but make living with it more bearable until a solution can be found. Hope it helps to know you're not alone! Take care - Sue and Mike!
