So I am getting a new puppy but I can't think of a name. Ive always named my pets flower/plant names like Daisy, Lilly, Blue-Bella, and Ivy.

But this one is a boy! I'd like to keep to a nature theme like Kodiak, Sequoia or something. But no names that are typical dog names please.

Oh yeah! He's called a Wyoming Mountain Dog but in reality he's a Elkhound/German Shepherd. He's fat and cute and i can't wait to bring him home!

Please help me name him.....

Dog (or Dawg, dont think muttley would mind the spelling)

I was once at a job when I drove big tippers around Glasgow, and the boss on site had a young(ish) puppy bouncing around. On enquiring it's name he shouts "Dog, here dog", and it came bounding over. That was it's name, Dog. Honestly. Makes sense I suppose.

On another note, my 2 year old Golden Retrievers dad is called Cupar, which is a small town in Fife in Scotland. Her mum is called Jura, an island of the West of Scotland, so you could think of a local town, or a state. My kids decide to call our pup Jupar, a mix of mum and dad's names. We still see her mum and dad quite often. Needless to say, chaos reigns.

Hope you think of a good name, let us know.

Wait till you get the puppy, get to know it and its personality.

Took me 4 months to name my cat when I first got her.. we went through lots of name until one finally felt right.

best wishes with your new addition, dont forget to post some photos

oooooh!.....i was so going to get a papillon...they are gorgeous dogs. but my husband thought i bigger dog makes more sense for me. i am less likely to hurt a bigger dog if/when i stumble and fall!

the main reason i' m getting a new pup is for Ivy. she was only a couple months old when i ended up in the hospital and she spent a few months by herself from 6 am until around 10 pm every day so she has huge seperation anxiety. there was just no other way. we are hoping a second dog will give her more confidence and if she's got canine companionship she wont need to be by my side every minute.

that's the hope anyways!...toni :P

We thought that about our old dog, Max, who sadly is no longer with us.
He used to sit for hours just staring at me. Un-nerving, it was. I'd spend an hour in the evening playing with him, and as soon as I thought it was time for me to relax, I got the stare again.

So .......we set off for the rescue centre to get a companion. Well, there was this litter of pups and I ended up sitting on the floor with them crawling all over me, drowning me in slobber.... Yep. Ended up with two (actually wanted to take all five but SHE put her foot down.

Old Max did his best to ignore the new arrivals and continued to bore into me with his eyes, and nothing deterred him until the old fella died.

They say history repeats itself. Seven years later one of these new additions suddenly had a heart attack and died.

Back to the rescue centre with strict instructions from HER not to even think about more than one. But there was this cute, ugly, game little mastif (we think) cross doing his damd-est to keep up with some older tearaway puppies.

SHE said "Ah! we can't leave him so we'll have to have him and the other one" that we'd already picked out.

Now the ugly one sits and stares at me most evenings - can't win.
Here he is. Not even slightly ugly now.

Guess who he's staring at!

So I thought I'd update everyone on the puppy situation....I didnt get the mountain dog.

I did get a little female australian shepherd. I figure Ivy is a great dog....so another one will be great too! She's 7 wks old and has that sweet skunky puppy breath still! No name yet.

My husband, Jeff, says he gets to name her but he's not picked one out so he might miss his chance.

Here she is....yes, that's me holding her.

All this talk of dogs is making me want to get another. Ex Hubby and I had a rottweiler named Diablo that we shared 'custody' of. We had to put him down fairly recently because he was so old and was really starting to suffer. At the end, he didn't even want to get up and eat treats or play anymore so as hard it was to do, we knew it was for the best. I love big dogs. I'm thinking of getting a Doberman.

"Ditto" ... I miss my Pug. I had him before my injury and post injury he would follow me walking just behind my axle on my wheelchair everywhere I went. He lost control of his back legs so I got him a dog wheelchair for a spell till it came time that I had to finally put him to sleep... It was too hard on me and the wife to get another dog. He was the last of three we had that all had to be put to sleep. They were quite the three amigos. A Pit Bull, a Beagle and a Pug.. lol...

As far as names for your dog... I agree with Ches:
"Wait till you get the puppy, get to know it and its personality."

Or you can just call it:
D O G
pronounced "Dee Oh Gee"
