I'm wondering if anyone just does digital stim to empty their bowels? I do my husband's bowel care and it seems I can just pull it all out without ever having to insert the suppository. I was wondering if anyone else does this and I just want to make sure it's not harmful to do it this way. I just keep stimualting and pulling it out until my finger comes out clear.

I just manually evacuate the stools because I have no sensation in the anal. No digital stimulation.

Does he have sensation at the anal?

I have been doing it just as you described for almost 6 years. I think it is a blessing. Saves so much time. Can't see any problem.

If you can get away with just dig stim then I think that's a good thing as long as it's easy and doesn't take too long. As far as I am aware dig stim won't work on low injuries (?L levels) due to the way the bowel works, it's the difference between upper and lower motor neurone bowel and the way the sphincters work (or don't!)
As long as the method you use works for you then keep going, the less drugs the better!

No, he doesn't have any sensation. I guess it is more of an "evacuation" than digital stim that I do. I just keep pulling and pulling until I have it all.

I have been doing it this way for over 20 years. Only times I need to take meds or use suppositories is when I need to "bring down" the faeces which is not very often. I doesnt work so well with very soft stool so you need to keep it sort of firm.

The only warning is keep it gentle as it is easy to injure the rectum and cause bleeding which can be scarey, a little blood goes along long way and can be alarming.

i have the whole deal with lax, then suppository, then stim, but after the suppository i often can feel well not like normal, but i get a bad urge to start pooping anyway i can most the time it's only with stim but occassionally i can hold my breath and begin to push some out. Can anyone feel anything or at least the finger inside? I can feel quite a bit including if I'm about empty.

I can't feel anything because I have a lower spinal fracture - L3 / L5 burst fracture.
