Hello all,

I've been browsing the site over the past couple weeks as things haven't exactly been doing that well for me and I've been looking for an outlet to release some of my energy and thoughts. I'm so happy that I came across a site where it really seems like people truly understand and try to be empathetic towards what others are going through.

I live in Vancouver, Canada and have been in a wheelchair for just over five years. I was injured on May 5, 2004 in a motorcycle accident while I was on my way to dinner in Whistler. Long story short, there were seven or eight of us on a casual bike ride when my bike suffered a mechanical failure. I slid into a ditch and was okay but unfortunately the bike started rolling end over end and the rear tire landed on my neck (or so I was told by witnesses).

I'm doing fairly well for myself now, or at least I would like to think so. I live on my own in a two-bedroom condo, have a small dog that I take care of, and attend university full-time. I'm currently in my third year, majoring in criminology and hoping to transition to law school in another year and a half. I'm coming out of my first serious relationship since the accident and I'm struggling a little bit with all the time I have to myself. Her name was Anna and I was with her for just under two years. I fairly certain that the relationship failed because the amount of care that I needed got in the way of us being able to enjoy each other's company, but I'm okay with that because it was such a great learning experience being with her and were so really good friends. At least next time I get into a relationship I will know my limits and boundaries and will be well prepared.

Anyway, I guess that's all I will rant about for now but I'm sure you'll be hearing much more from me in the near future.

Hi there and welcome.

I have found this site really informative as, when I met my partner there were things I wanted to know but didn't think I knew him well enough yet to ask, so I turned to here and found other people with similar issues talking openly about all sorts of things. Now I can speak honestly and freely to him.

There are really caring and supportive folks on here, some real characters and some wise old owls too.

And some :tease:  !
There are those who can but won't and there are those that would if they could. I'ts ATTITUDE in life that makes a difference.
