Have a pair of TiLite chairs with their standard spinergy wire wheels on which I,m pretty much forced to run Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres (I live rural - lots of hedge thorns).

I'm having a problem with blowouts on the inner circumference of the inner tubes caused by the tubes expanding under pressure into the deeply recessed spoke holes and have heard that fitting heavier rim tape will make the fitting of my Schwalbe Marathons very difficult (my arthritic old thumbs suffer as it is).

The only option I can think of (apart from filling the spoke hole recesses with Blu tack or such) is Veloplugs (difficult to obtain in UK) so before going any further, I was wondering if anyone had used them on this type of rim with success.

Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem with one of my sets of spinergies (suppplied by tilite - the other set supplied by quickie came with an appropriate rim tape). I ripped off the old rim tape and ran round it a couple if times with some insulating tape - not had a problem since but I don't use schwalbe tyres and don't (yet) have arthritic thumbs.

Thanks Russ - Just had a word with a local cycle shop and he said much the same. Use Schwalbe tape and tubes (good quality). He was understandably horrified at my BluTac idea!

Here in the states we have our own cure for a million problems. We call it duct tape.

It's the temporary fix that often lasts till the thing you're fixing wears out.
