I am a caregiver working with someone who has a C6 SCI and when PROM for a hamstring stretch is done on the right side particularly his hip pops. There is very little torque or resistance at that point in the stretch, but the spasticity is still kicking some times. I am thinking that it is the illiotibial band moving over the greater trochanter and not the joint. His hip is not dislocated after and does not seem to be subluxed. He doesn't have any additional discomfort when it happens, but we both cringe and I don't go beyond that point. I guess I just wanted to know if anyone else has this happen. I searched far and wide on the internet and found nothing. I did have a paraplegic person I was working with before who stretched his legs to an extreme, like gymnast or contortionist extreme, and he had a lot of pops and snaps in the process. I just didn't want to assume anything.

For me it's kind of normal... my hips always pop and my shoulder... my mom cringes but it doesn't hurt. Unless my shoulder pops out of place, that's a whole different ball game! B)

I have a friend (C5) who's hip ACTUALLY snapped while doing ROM stretches!
