Tawyna,
There may still be coverage for him but it may take some working through the bureaucracy. I remember in rehab the case manager explained to me that when a person goes from SSI to SSDI (I assume you mean SSDI?) they lose their regular Medicaid and Medicare does not start for two years. But there is another provision of Medicaid that may cover the gap. He may have to re-qualify for Medicaid as "medically needy", Temporary Assistance, or some other category.

If he doesn't try to re-qualify, for sure the Medicaid will just stop. He needs to talk to someone at your state's Medicaid office and press them for answers before he gets left with nothing.

Good luck!

I'm going through the same thing...I've got no insurance right now because the medicaid medically needy program sucks and my medicare won't kick in for another 4 months...they want me to DIE in the mean time, so they won't have to provide any insurance (that's the only reason I can figure that they would deny a paraplegic healthcare) ...anyway, I plan on hanging in there and then when I do get medicare, I'm going to go for every damn thing I can think of, down to a freakin' hang nail, just to get them back!
