Hello everyone. My name is Tetsuo Shigeta and I am from Tokyo, Japan.

I was in a work-related accident in 2002, C2-3 spinal injury. I am now a complete quadriplegic and cannot use my legs or my arms, but I am living at home alone, with the help of Home Care aides.
I am currently using a Baclofen pump and have been using it for the past 2 years. The electric wheelchair I use is from the USA -- the Quickie 646, chin controller.

Public transportation in Tokyo is quite developed, and fortunately I am able to go out and about with relative ease, even without a car.
I am also using my computer with a mouth-stick.

I'm curious to know about what kind of life-style everyone else leads.
Although my English is not very good, I am really looking forward to meeting people here and hearing your stories.
Thank you!

Tetsuo,
Welcome to the site. You will like it here I'm sure.
Love the little toy hanging off your chin controller.
Very "kawaii" (hope I spelled that right.)

Be seeing you.

Welcome to the forum where you'll discover lots of interesting people from all parts of the World.

I'm pleased you have good access in Tokyo and are able to be independent. You come across as a positive person, which is a good thing.

Good luck here, where you'll find lots of useful information and also share your knowledge with others. Just take time to read some of the Threads people write and feel free to give your opinion.

Hi Tetsuo - and welcome!

I'm a complete (sensory incomplete - at least that's what I tell myself..) like you - but c5/c6 so still got arms (biceps, not triceps) no hand function.
I sit in a manual chair since I can push myself around, to a certain degree that is...
Smile! See me:)

I noticed on your profile page you spend time "good doctor hunting" . . . . . it's definately an art form!!

If you have any tips, please share.

Welcome.

Welcome aboard. It's great to know that you're able to get out and about in the city. I'd heard Tokyo was quite tough with a wheelchair.

Hello topperf,

Thanks for your message!
I call myself the same thing (complete c4 but sensory incomplete....)
But I try to live life with as much positive thinking as I can!
Best of luck to you.

Thank you, Jerry.

I appreciate the very kind message. I use a mouth-stick to type (very slow....), so not sure if I'd be able to join you in a chat room, but maybe one day!

Take care,

Tetsuo

Hapahowlee-san,

Thanks for your message. What a surprise to know you were born here in Tokyo!
Tachikawa Air Force Base doesn't exist here anymore, and is now a park (Showa-kinen Park), but it is a very beautiful park. Maybe you will be able to return here and visit it one day. :cold:

Hello Chris,

Thank you for your message and for the information.
I've tried the Madentic tracker before, but unfortunately it didn't seem to suit me very well.
I'd like to try out dragon naturally speaking though. Do you know if it is Mac compatible?

Hello & welcome. Ohio! (don't know if it spelled that way or not)

You had asked if the Dragon software can work with Mac. computers. http://nuance.com/na...s/macintosh.asp I'm not sure about what languages it will or wont work with but enough business is conducted in Japanese one would think/hope they would include it.

I met someone who came here to the U.S. to get their degree from Japan because he was a C5 quad. He said in the area of Japan that he lived they do not have many things accessible to him. Glad that Tokyo seems to be more accommodating. :head_brick_wall-1:

As far as fast/slow typing in the chat rooms I'm sure you'll find some people who are patient enough to wait a bit. There are quite a few who use the chat rooms & only have use of thumbs & everyone is good about waiting.

Thanks for the info! I took a look, but unfortunately it looks like you can't use Japanese...
Maybe some time soon in the future.
