My husband had a sci March of this year. We have so many ?. I haven't noticed many T3 T5 injurys. Is there some one that can help me out with some experiences of there own.

He is starting to have a lot of acheing in his legs. Does that mean anything? He is getting feeling in his legs. Has no control over his bladder but is starting to feel the pressure of when he needs to talk a bowel movement. Which 1 month ago he couldn't even feel that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a T4, but I can't help much since my injury was only 8 weeks ago and I'm still in the hospital but maybe we can compare notes. My T4 was crushed and he fused T3-T8. My main proble right now is I also broke my elbow - and as you know you need your elbow. Your husband's new feeling gives me hope.

My boyfriend's injury was originally thought to be at T4, but his ASIA test puts him at T2. He has a bit more sensation on the right than the left, so he's somewhere close to your husband's level. It's a good sign that he can detect when he needs to move his bowels. As you read through this site you will see how much that can affect the quality of his everyday life, in ways we AB folks never consider. The bladder will probably be fine; my b/f has his cathing routine down now and he just has to do all the usual things to prevent UTI's.

You have come to the right place - the members here are smart, supportive, funny, and will dish out the tough love when needed. The only advice I can offer is to remember to look after yourself while you're caring for him. You are probably already on the roller-coaster of emotions; don't let yourself get too worn out and accept help when you need it. You and your husband will both benefit.

Good luck!

No, not yet. I can't feel anything from the bottom of my bra down. My spinal cord was 3/4 severed so I still have some hope of regaining some feeling, but so far nothing.

I got thrown off a horse. I broke 4 vertabra, 5 ribs and my left elbow. The elbow is the worst part as you don't know how much you need it until you are in a wheelchair.

i think he can consider himself lucky that he is getting feeling back. i am t5 and my accident was 9 months ago. no feeling or movement from my nipple level down. and still have no idea when i have to go to the bathroom. make sure he stays positive, he already has many good things happening for him.

What kind of aching is he having? Muscle, Bone, Nerves? Could be good, or bad.. probably good though.

Bladder is a bitch, and just from my own research :mfrlol: control of your bladder seems to be one of the last functions and person will regain, if ever. I remember in the sci clinic, all the (what would appear to be) AB's wearing cath bags.

The bowel is definitely a good sign, like everyone around here says Knowing is half the battle. I think I was about 4 or 5 months post when I started getting those same signals.. and again, didnt you write elsewhere that he could feel pressure in his ass from the get-go? Its all good,, even if the recovery ceases as of now, he's already made progress.

There's so much info for a newbie, more than I could ever write.. Just remember all is possible, try to avoid learned Non-use when you can, and.... it will get easier!

His aching is from his injury down , it is in muscles and joint. i think. He said it's usually after he works out hard. Like today he went swimming for an hour , thet have been aching since.

I'll be 50 in dec. Things were going really well, i was able to transfer bed to chair and back and doing the self cath thing... but last Thursday they had to do surgery to restitch the incision on my back so right now I'm not even allowed to help turn myself. It's only a temporary set back but still depressing. How long was your husband in the hospital? I've been here going on 10 weeks and am so ready to go home.

He was in Loma Linda ICU for 3 weeks, then transferred to A Tucson rehab,(11 days there) they let his incision get infected, went to a hospital here had surgery again to get the infection out, was there for 13 days, then went to a nursing home for 15 days to recup, then went to a different rrehab for 12 days, then came home. He has made alot more improvement since he has been home. We have a PT come in 2 times a wek right now. But betwwe my 2 daughters and I we work with him everyday.

My injury was May 22, nine and half weeks ago. I've been here in the hospital ever since. I think I should be going home soon. My feeling stops just below my bra.

His feelings also started right below his nipples. But now it is right below his belt line. I would say it was 5-6 weeks when the feeling went down. He T3-T5 ompressed, they put a rod and pins in his back. He was in a high speed boat accident

I am glad to hear of the progress your husband is making! One major thing that hasn't been discussed is sleeping. I found an alternating pressure mattress for $500 on the internet that is wonderful. It overlays my bed and can be deflated for travel. Until I found it, I was having to be turned every two hours and not sleeping very well. Now, I only have to wake up once for cathing in the middle of the night. I don't remember the name of it (I'm at work now), but if you do a search for "alternating pressure mattress" you should find some.

Hi, Good to hear that your husband improved since Discharge. I have learned from spinal Unit that most of the recovery (if any) happens with in first two years of injury. I am T4 complete, injured 6 years back, have no sensation below my injury level.

I had pain at my back (shoulder area) after my injury and I later found out that it was caused by some hardened muscle at lover part of shoulder bone where I did not had sensation. It was really irritating pain and I could not even correctly identify where the pain was, it felt like whole back is exploding. Pain increased after doing some activity like pushing/swimming. Massaging the area helped ease the hardened muscle (i guess it was muscle) and pain is gone. Recently I become more active (playing wheelchair badminton) and not had the pain for some time now. I still get pain all over my back when there is a small boil below my injury level, some times so small, that it wont even be visible. Since I cannot feel where the irritation is, I feel like having itching/pain all over back shoulder, some times it takes minutes to find and scratch right area.
When my bladder is full, I generally feel like my blood pressure rising, and face and ears get warm, but not always gives the right indication, nor I get enough of warning to rush to toilet. So I use sheath catheter attached to leg bag and self catheter 5 times a day. Not ideal, but my bladder does not store more that 400ml and I work full time. I get electrifying feeling on my toe if I try to move, but no sensation, nor toe move.
No two spinal injuries are same, so not necessary any of my experience is relevant to your husbands. But yes I did have similar pain below my injury level.
