Hi I'm Katie and the wife of a quad. My husband fell last April, was operated on and now almost a year later he can only move his head and neck some. The doctors say that's as far as he will advance. Someone told us about stem cells from cows. Does anyone know if this is for real? He needs 24 hour help (me and my son) sometimes I think I just can't do it anymore then I know I will cause he would do the same for me if this happened to me. It's a hard job and I feel tired when I go to sleep and tired when I wake up.
Thank's for listening.

Hi Katie,
I am listening. And I know its very very difficult to be in the situation you find your entire family in. I'm glad your son stands by you both.
I have not heard anything about stem cells and cows. And if there was something, but experimental, would you encourage your husband to take the chance? I'm thinking this over. Sometimes, I'd say "yup anything", and today I'd say no. Because today, I had a good day and I feel with hard work we can make it. One of my sons came to visit, and today I took a walk while he helped with PT. I have four children. Three live a state away. One lives in the same state but has no car. They have been deligent and one of them visits once a week. But I usually spend that time doing food shopping, dealing with the rest of selling our business, getting the oil changed in the car. Well actually that was what I was supposed to do today, instead I took a walk. And it felt really good. I don't know if anyone agrees with me. But sometimes it has to be all about me/you. Wouldn't it be nice it we all could just walk away for a day and sit and have coffee/or tea, and chat? Take care Katie, i wish you the best

Thank's we have been searching for anything that might help. Oh boy do I hear you about just getting up and going away for awhile but it's really hard to do. I had to quit my job and become a full time nurse after my husbands fall. You know when it's really hard for me is when my girlfriends ask me to go and have coffee or something and I have to say no. They don't really understand and that makes me sad. I feel like my life stopped last April 9th.

Hi Katie,
I just watched 60 min. on CBS news. There is a Dr. Keirstead in California that has used stem cells on paralyzed mice, and in six weeks they were walking!!!!Pending FDA approval he plans on doing a clinical trial in California. This research was done with the stem cells Pres Bush allowed. And, the doctor, argues "I don't feel what I'm doing is morally wrong. I think the use of human embyonic stem cells is an ethical and responsible thing to do with tissue that would have been destroyed in the discards of a fertillity clinic." Makes sense to me. If you'd like to read the article, go to CBS.com, look for 60 minutes, and print out the article. Hoping you find that one person to have coffee and a chat with. Hoping you take the time for yourself and do it.

Hi Katie,
Glad you finally got to read the print out. But I think you should look at a topic in the General Messages and Spinal Cord Injury. It's entitled: "60 minutes tonight at 7pm on Cbs." Joed who started the topic is someone I think you will be very glad to meet. I jumped all over her on this topic, so enthusiastic am I?
But I'm very new to this; she is not. Still wishing to find a way to walk away for a day and have a cup of coffee and chat.

I know what you mean Onion I haven't been more than a5 mile radias of my house in almost a year now. Still we can dream can't we? What I wouldn't give to be on a beach just watching the waves or walking on that nice warm sand. Oh well I will go and look at what you told me and thank's again.
Hugs, Katie.

Well i reckon it will happen in about 2-3 years time ive read about a drug that helps and sounds more promising than stem cells i posted it a few weeks ago have a read a see wot u think. I think this certain drug will help more and think stem cells will only help certain functions come back eg. some limb movment sensory bowel bladder and maybe sexual function. But hey its a lot better than nothing at all. and great for the likes of people who are injured at a high level.
