Ah, always on the look out for a good place to watch a movie. The ones that serve food here in Dallas is the Studio Movie Grill. They have several in the area. I have been to the one in Addison. Wasn't the biggest screen and I personally thought the food was pretty bad, although some people I know said they love it. You can order food and drinks while watching the movie. You do come in from the rear of the theater at the one I went to. If you like sitting in the rear then it is a place worth checking out.

My favorite in the Dallas area is the AMC at Northpark. Of course there it is in the middle of the mall and if you wanna park close to the entrance to the mall anywhere it's valet, so I'm normally parked way the hell out. They do have handicap parking in the valet area and probably offer free valet for handicap, but I never mess with it. Once inside the ticket booth is on the 2nd floor while the actual theater is on the 3rd. So my wife normally takes the escalator to the 2nd while I go ahead and take the elevator to the 3rd, gotta be one of the slowest around, so by the time I get up there she is normally getting there about the same time.

Once inside there is another elevator to the 4th floor that lets you go into the back of 3 or 4 of the theaters out of the 15 they have. The rest are down towards the front with about 10 rows in front of you. Personally I prefer to sit here. It's not to close, but not to far away. They do have the 2 or 3 seats together with spaces between them, but I always jump in one of their nice comfy chairs. All in All it's my favorite theater that I have been to in Dallas.

Other theaters in the area I've been too. AMC at Valley View Mall, sort of like Northpark but smaller, I try not to go. UA Galaxy 10 over in Garland, been to it a few times but it's been awhile, doesn't really stick out, but it's not one I've marked off my list to go to, was nice theater, nice seating. Cinemark off of 635 is horrible, crappy seats, dirty stained and uncomfortable, some of them have it where you are right at the screen looking straight up at it. Won't go back there even with free tickets.

I'm always looking for one that I have a good experience at. So far I haven't ever had a bad experience at the Northpark AMC

There is a few theaters in there that have a elevator that goes up to the top an lets you come into them from behind.
thank you so much! I will check it out :D

I went to the movies with the guy that I have been seeing the other day. I warned him that this particular movie theater SUCKS for wheelchair seating! In fact it's one of the reasons why I do not go to any new movie theaters...

this particular AMC theater is in the mall and it is huge, very nice (if walking). My guy knew that I haven't been to the movies in forever (years) and wanted to take me (he challenges me and makes me want to try new things all the time -- 1 of the things that attracts me to him, but that's a different story LOL)

soooo we go to the theater and of course there is no place to park! We had to park all the way in the back nowhere near the movie theater, more like in the line of traffic... something I'm used to. We go to the movie and he automatically sees what I mean.

The wheelchair seating is in a very very very very front! He wears glasses, can't see far away without them, I'm surprised he didn't take them off that is how close we were to the screen! Not only that but my chair is taller not the "typical" wheelchair... so yes we were sitting together... but he was lower than me LOL.

My leg made a good armrest for him :D

I had a great time I just don't understand why the wheelchair seating had to be so close! Does anybody ever have the same issues or suggestions on where else I could sit???

IMAX.

That's been the theater I've had the best luck with here in Austin. The wheelchair seating is up top, and you get to go in first. Also, the exit is right behind you if you should need to go to the restroom. I don't know if there is one set up like that in Dallas, but it is worth a look. Usually if you call and ask, the theater will cooperate with you and give you a chance to check out the seating if you like, or they will give you a general idea on the phone of how the seating is set up. I know the tickets are a bit more, but I LOVE the IMAX. Just something about the huge screen and hellaciously loud sound system. Plus, the handicap plates or placards mean free parking in the parking garage...Right next to the elevator.
ahhh I didn't even think about the IMAX! Will definitely look into that one! Thanks!

Yeah I went like 2 or 3 months ago, just to go.. the movie showing was some shit about cave exploration and looking for new potential medicines.. It was pretty lame for an IMAX experience, BUT,, BUT BUT.. the big Texas Instruments commercial at the beginning (its like 10 minutes long) is realllly rad.

The Dallas World Aquarium is pretty accessible too, the inside is set up like a rain forest, so you can little hills, cobblestone and slippery pavement in some spots.. and the ramp inside is like 100 feet winding back and forth.... but other than that.. its alot of fun too. Id recommend a day at the aquarium before the Imax.

The DWA is located in West End (downtown Dallas) I've been down there 3 or 4 times in the last year and I swear I always seen a handful of other wc users down there each time, even at the deadest business hours.

the previews are always better than the actual movie :D

I still haven't been to the aquarium but I think that would be a lot of fun to go to! Have been wanting to go forever! 100 foot ramp woohoo that's going to be fun, literally! We need to get together again...

We have so much new building going on around here and haven't found much that isn't accessible. I think it's good to call vendors to let them know how awful their facilities are such as the movie theatres. Puts a bug in their ear for when they remodel or build new facilities.

We have Harkins Theatres here and every one we've been to has handicap and companion seating in the middle. The only problem we have is if we get there late and it's like with handicap parking, you find able-bodied people sitting in those seats and we just get the usher to make them move.

We recently took a trip up North to get away from this heat and stopped at the Meteor Crater first. I asked if I could get in free since I had to be with my husband to help him. The guy at the ticket window said it was fully accessible - NOT! Good thing another guy came up and just told him to charge for only 1 ticket. In order to get to the Crater, you have to go through the gift shop that has a ramp that would probably kill someone if they went down alone. I'd say it was about a 60 degree angle. I had to ask a large man to help me get hubby back up when we left. When you do get out to see the Crater, if you're in a wheelchair there's only one spot where you can sit to look. The rest are lookout points that you can only get to by climbing steps. It's definitely not FULLY accessible.

We got lucky when we passed up the highway that leads us to the Grand Canyon. We stopped at a town where there was a tourist center and when I went in to ask about how accessible the Canyon is, the Parks Services worker asked if my husband is permanently disabled, a U.S. Citizen and receives Federal Funding and when I told him yes, he went out to hubby's van and got him to sign off that all was true and we got a card that is good for life that allows him access to all State Parks for free. It's good for hubby and anyone in his vehicle or if not in the vehicle it's good for him and 3 companions. We were having a good Karma day. Actually the entire trip was a blast. We got to drive on the scenic path at the Canyon that's really only for tour buses.

Just a FYI for anyone interested in getting a free life-time pass to State Parks.

that's awesome! I want to go to the skywalk but heard it was very expensive and some people said it wasn't worth it... but I still would love to go!

Too bad I don't receive federal funding -- thanks for letting everybody else know hapa!

Yeah, I thought about the skywalk too, but I believe it's at the North end and we didn't feel up to driving up there and we really needed to get back. Even though we have the free pass, I think we would have been charged to go on it b/c it's owned by the Hualapai Tribe, so that's separate from State owned land.

Mr. Hapa gets a little nervous when dealing with heights, so he wasn't really keen on going out on the skywalk. I don't think it's just a post-injury thing. When we were on the Red Road, I kept hopping out of the van to get down to where I could get some good pictures and he kept yelling my name and saying, "That's far enough." I've never been afraid of heights and used to climb a lot of bluffs when I was younger, so going out on a ledge only large enough to hold half my feet is not scary to me. I just wanted to get some good pics of the Colorado River and some of the rapids.

I told hubby that if he didn't shut up, he'd make me fall. We talked about next time staying at one of the lodges along he rim, but they are pretty much booked a year in advance.

Ang, if you ever make it to AZ, we'll take a chick trip up there and do the skywalk!! What do ya say? :toast: Also, we'll go see a movie where you'll have a great seat, right in the middle.

ahhh yeah probably not covered since it's not a state park.

My mom is definitely scared of heights, my guy is scared of heights, I'm sort of scared of heights but I love the rush especially postinjury! I have to absolutely trust the person I am with when going near the edge of anything LOL.

I could see Mr. Hapa's concern hehe. I would love to go with you and do the skywalk :yahoo: I am still planning a trip up there to go see Gus... the fashion line comes first right now though but I do need a vacation BIG-TIME!

Yes I have run into this. I have found Rave Movie Theaters are the best for wheelchair seating. The small movie rooms have them in the middle of the seats. A large room has 3 wheelchair seating areas, top, middle, and bottom (they have stadium seats) the top can be reached by elevators. And the chairs you park next to have a drink holder on BOTH arm rests so I don't have to juggle my soda and bucket of popcorn on my lap.
